ML> Do you use sunblock? I recommend it. Carol doesn't, which
ML> drives me bananas. She tans well, but still ...
GJ> Warn her again before she comes here. Also to get proper sun glasses.
ML> She has sunglasses. I don't. We should have some sunblock left
ML> over from our Caribbean adventure, but I doubt I'll get her to
 ML> actually use any.

I have plenty. As an alternative or addition, a wide-brimmed hat
helps. Remember this time you will be arriving in early Summer, and
not the depths of Winter like last time. (Think Arizona in Summer.)
Hap would appreciate the comment of one of your cine-photographers
after arriving here that Australia was two stops over exposed.

ML> A distinguished but lushful-looking gentleman. Funnily, we
ML> drank of all those bottles, a group of six or so, Kevin Symons,
ML> Greg Mayman, Glen, myself, and Margaret Lehmann, with Peter
 ML> joining us later.
GJ> Oh, _that_ photo! Remember that I was the designated driver (I
ML> I don't remember who was the designated driver, only that I
ML> wasn't. Dorothy wasn't with us on that particular trip, I
ML> think, although Benita probably was, but she doesn't drink.

Fortunately for the safety of our tour, spittoons were provided.

ML> Looking forward indeed. Do you know anything about the
ML> Cellar Door Pass? The good thing about it is that you
ML> get 6 bottles of wine with your A$99. Plus a Riedel glass
ML> at some of the wineries.

What is that all about? As cellar door tasting is free, anyway, what
else do you get for the $99 apart from the glass and 6 bottles? I
shall ask about that if you tell me who sells it.

ML> Speaking of which, the Clare wineries I've thought of
ML> are Grosset, Stringy Brae, Paulett, Wendouree, and Kirrihill,
ML> maybe Neagles Rock and Sevenhill (in deference to Kevin).

ML> Katnook, Brand's, Hollick, Balnaves, Wynn's, Zema, Parker in
 ML> Coonawarra.

ML> Chain of Ponds (I pooh-poohed this when we were there before),
ML> Ashton Hills, Petaluma (closed when we were there), Nepenthe
 ML> in Adelaide.

I have noted your requests and will attempt to arrange a schedule
which includes the above selection.

 ML> =

GJ> 16 Red Rooster, and an increasing number of Red Rock Noodle Bars,
ML> We don't have Red anything but Lobster here. The Roosters I can
 ML> do without.

I have once, when desperate, dined at a Red Rooster. The worst mashed
potato/gravy semi-liquid and vegetables I have ever had in my life.
The chook may have been OK, as I don't remember it. Never again!

GJ> which serve good quality Malaysian-Vietnamese food at a decent price.
ML> I'll have a taste of your Hokkien mee, and you can have a sip
 ML> of my house red.

Just a sip? I think we could run to a 1 litre carafe.

ML> I am told that Pizza Hut has not bad pizza, though. Do they
ML> also have a good house red?

I confess I don't know. In Adelaide I have only eaten their take-away
pizzas. The only time I have eaten in a Pizza Hut was in Jambi city,
Sumatra, where there was no alcohol, and the supposed "hot" pizza
wasn't. It was next to the top hotel in Jambi, so catered to any
visiting foreigners who couldn't stomach the local chili levels.

GJ> : the "Red Ass Curry and Noodle Cafe Restaurant".
ML> Possibly. Depends what the red ass refers to.

Communist donkey curry?

Title: Red or Green Thai Curry
 Categories: Thai, Seasonings
      Yield: 1 Servings

2 tb Red or green curry paste

           -Mae Ploy brand is excellent
      3 tb Vegetable oil
    3/4 lb Boneless chicken meat
           -- cut into 3/4-inch pieces
      2 cn (unsweetened) coconut milk
1 c Water or chicken broth
    1/2 c Baby corns
    1/2 c Straw mushrooms
           -OR- other mushroom
    1/2 c Sliced bamboo shoots
      5 Kaffir lime leaves *
1/2 ts Salt (more or less to
           Taste)
           -- (approx. 1-1/2 c each)

MMMMM----------------------FOR GREEN CURRY---------------------------
     10 Fresh basil leaves

MMMMM-----------------------FOR RED CURRY----------------------------
1/2 Red bell pepper; cut into
           -- matchstick-size strips

Note: * (dried kaffir lime leaves are fine; these are available in
  packages on the bottom -- usually dusty -- shelf of the Asian market;
they look like dried, curled-up leaves)

You can add other things (holy basil, fish sauce, chopped hot Thai
chiles, lemon grass, galanga, shrimp paste, etc.).

Instructions: Fry curry paste in oil in saucepan until fragrant. Add
chicken (if using) and saute for about 1 minute over medium high
heat. Add remaining ingredients except basil leaves or red bell
pepper. Bring just barely to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 20-30
minutes. Just before serving, stir in basil leaves or red bell
pepper. Serve with cooked Thai Jasmine rice.
