Of course you are, and of course they had Seniors when I was in (grin), and 
Masters too...but all in all they are E7-E9 labelled as "Chief Petty Officers" 
while those of us who were E4-E6 were simply Petty Officers.

I made 1st in 6 without the aid of the star program (they still have that?) in
a 
pretty competitive rating (FTB, which I'm told is no longer a rating having 
been combined with MT's). When I went through "C" school at Dam Neck, the 
top third of the class were made into NAV ET's, the middle third were made 
into FTB's, and the bottom third made into MT's. There were plenty of billets 
available as there were 41 boomers online and tenders and school billets 
ashore as well. Still all in all you had to pass the test and that was no easy 
task! Got PNA'd once because there were actually too many 1st's in the fleet 
and only (if I remember right) 35 or so got advanced. And as you know the 
higher you get on the ladder the fewer billets are available for you. I

Course ya do! You are a goat aren't ya? (grin) Do you have separate guy and 
girl goat lockers? And of course you live on a ship big enough to have 
a "Chief's Mess" ....we only had 125 on the whole dang crew (officers 
included) so our chiefs ate with the masses (grin). Then again the 
relationship of a crew on a sub is entirely different than that of a surface 
vessel. We lived an 18 hour day three section at sea, so meals were served 
before and at the end of each watch. Non qual's (also called "dink's") had 10 
minutes to eat and had to spend the rest of that time working on 
qualifying...of course they spent 98% of all their off watch time working on 
getting those dolpins. The saying was "if you ain't qualified, you're
delinquent, 
now turn to on those qual's dink." Once you qualified you were a shipmate, 
crewmember and "one of us" and believe me qualifying is/was never an easy 
thing to do. I was more proud of my dolphins than my rate or rating badges. 
being able to put that addendum to my name (SS) meant more to me than 
anything else I did in the navy...including working on the second moon shot 
at the cape.
