I just skimmed this because of the length but do concur with many of the
points. I have seen a lot of it in the time Steve has been in; some
aspects are changing however.  Just a couple of them off the top of my
head: 1) Officer and enlisted children don't make class distinctions as
a general rule; they go to the same school and socialise together.  Dad
(or Mom in some cases) wears the rank/uniform; the kids don't care what
rank is on it. 2) Military schools are as big or bigger than civilian
ones, both in the USA and overseas.  Most USA posts have done away with
the high school and send those kids to a local one but elementary and
middle schools are as big or bigger sometimes than the ones in town.  Do
you have a list of those cites; numbers don't mean a thing without the
back up reference?  I'm half inclined to print this off and send it to
my girls to see their reactions. (G)  One thing it didn't mention is
that military kids are usually more open minded about foods from a
different culture; whether they've lived in it or have friends from it,
they are willing to try a lot of foods the average kid in the USA
probably has no idea about.

BTW, we got the news on Monday; our younger military brat (AKA Deborah)
is getting promoted to Staff Sergeant (E6) as soon as the orders can be
cut.  Another thing the article didn't mention (or I didn't pick up on)
is that a lot of brats tend to go into the military themselves, if only
for one term of enlistment.  Just a few observations from our 24 years
in. (G)
