Ärende: Dinner out
==================
Hi Sean,

RH> We're beginning the "unsettlement" or transiton time. Pack out is set
RH> for the end of July (they estimate 2 months to get our stuff to
RH> Georgia) so I've got a few weeks to get things ready. Then, from the
RH> time we fly until the time we get a place to live & get our stuff
RH> back, it'll be very unsettled. I don't anticipate breaking an elbow
RH> like I did just after we moved here; that put a major dent into our

SD> I understand the unsettlement time. I've moved so much in my life
SD> that I never had a chance to make any good friends (nearly all of them
SD> are online). I do hope you don't break your elbow again. That would
SD> definitely be a bad thing. Hopefully you won't croak in the good ol'

The only move I made as a kid was across the street (rural road) when I
was quite young. Then off to college meant moving there & back but
still small compared to moving to NC after getting married. Then Steve
joined the Army & we've been uprooted every few years. This last move
was the first one we did without our girls to help unpack & put away
stuff.

We've made friends wherever we've gone; some have stayed on our list
long after leaving the place; others, we never hear from again. I
joined the echo here in late January, 94 and have seen a lot of "faces"
come & go but have built up a lot of friendships with some of the other
"long term-ers". I hope to meet (more of) when we can get to an echo
picnic.

No, I don't intend to shatter an elbow (or other part of the body) after
this move. A couple of weeks before packing out in AZ, I'd gone to ER
with an asthma attack. I think that cascaded downward in the stress of
packing, moving, travel, etc so I wasn't feeling too great when we moved
into this place. That, combined with a bad sidewalk and weak bones, was
the cause of the elbow fracture. I found out the next day when the
anaesthesiologist nixed surgery (for that day) that I had an
atalectasis (collapsed lung but not a pneumothorax type) which was why I
was feeling so crummy. After a couple of days of therapy (drugs,
breathing treatments, extra oxygen) I was able to have the surgery; I
now have about a 3 1/2" plate (and other assorted hardware) in the elbow
to go with the ones in my wrists.

SD> GA humidity at that time of year. I have never lived in a more humid
SD> place than GA, however, since you're near the coast, that humidity
 SD> could be blown away.

Hopefully. There won't be the trade winds we have out here but sea
breezes instead. But, probably a good chance we will have central air
conditioning vs the couple of window units we have now.

SD> We're still not completely settled here - we have a garage full of
SD> stuff back down at my mother-in-law's place. We just live in too
SD> small of a place for everything, let alone what we have right now.
SD> We're hoping to either move downstairs to a two-bedroom apartment or
SD> move completely to a different place all together. We want to make
SD> sure it's on the public transportation system for my wife though.

I hear you there; we've got some books that haven't seen the light of
day in 5 years. We're going to look for a place easily accessible to
public transport too; I don't drive.

RH> And bypass how many interesting places to eat along the way? Four
RH> years ago we stopped at a chain bbq place on the GA side of the FL

SD> There's hundreds of great places to eat around (and that's not even
SD> counting Atlanta). You could spend months out there finding all the
SD> good places to eat. There's quite a few in Kennesaw and Acworth
SD> (haven't delved too much into Marietta) that we liked to visit, in
 SD> addition to Kennesaw Diner.

Too bad we don't know anybody in the Savannah area right now that could
give us a list of favorite places. We've done that with several
families that have moved here; one couple told us a bit later we'd not
steered them wrong yet of what they'd tried on the list. I'll probably
hit up the Yellow Pages while we're in guest housing to check what's
available. That's usually my first move, then read the local paper's
reviews as they come out. Probably the best ones we'll find just by
just wandering into their neighborhoods; we've several here that we
found that way that we know we will miss.

---
Catch you later,
Ruth
