culinary adventures. I recommend Bryan's tamales and
Ocean Prince smoked oysters.

 From there, it was only a short five minute
 DS> drive to Anne Arundel Seafood, so we took the side trip for lunch.

Thanks for putting yourselves at peril for the common
good yet again.

 DS> My crab cake was a large 8 oz hunk for $10.95, with crackers on the
 DS> side.   Could have had a platter with two sides for $18.95 or bun
 DS> instead of crackers.  I'd have placed it about equal to the one I
 DS> had at Kaufman's -- i.e. not very good.   It had a lot of filling,

I'm thinking the Martin's plan with Rich and myself making
crabcakes for the multitude (I really don't think that people
will need more than 3 oz each, given that there will be other
things to eat) is the most viable one so far.

 DS> Gail's fish was pretty good, but not as much to our taste as what we
 DS> get at Red Robin (our best fish & chips so far).

I never thought to get fish and chips at Red Robin, where the
burgers are pretty good but expensive and the fries decent
in a thick sort of way. Out west, seconds on fries are free.
Is that true here as well?

 DS> They had about six beers on tap, including two flavors of Sam Adams.

 DS> They also had Coors lite on tap.

I've had Blue Moon at the factory (in Golden, Colorado); it was
not blue and not very good either. Very quenching, though, but
so is Aquafina.

 DS> We had cokes from the cooler in a plastic bottle.   They had vanilla
 DS> coke there.  I thought that had disappeared from the market?

They had - Coke was experimenting with various flavors; but
I guess this one got the nod.

Gulp! Them's oyster prices. Mussels should be $3 a pound or less.

CRAB QUICHE
cat: starter, lunch
servings: 6

Pastry for 1 (10") pie, unbaked
1 lb Maryland crab meat
2 c shredded Gruyere cheese
4 eggs
1 c half and half
1 ts salt
1 ts ground nutmeg
1 ts chopped parsley

Preheat oven to 425F. Roll out pastry to fit a 10" pie
pan. Place pastry in pan. Line pastry shell with foil;
fill with rice, beans or metal pie weights. Bake 10 min;
remove weights and foil from pastry shell. Reduce oven
temperature to 325F. Return pastry shell to oven; bake
10 min longer. Cool in pan on a wire rack. Sprinkle half
the cheese into cooled pastry shell. Top with crab meat.
In a medium bowl, heat eggs; beat in half and half, salt,
nutmeg, and parsley. Pour over crab meat; sprinkle with
remaining cheese. Bake 55 to 65 min or until a knife
inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 min before
cutting. Serve warm or at room temperature.
