I am proud and happy to announce that Newark, a thriving little metropolis
in the Great State of New York, has just opened it's first Mexican
Restaurant!!

Four days ago the El Pacifico opened it's doors to a public slavering to
ingest Mexican food.   Business has been flitting between poor and heavy,
giving me hope that Shirley and I would be able to get back again before it
closes.  Newark is hard on restaurants.  

About the restaurant:  it's a new genre to us, as we have only had 'real'
Mexican food a couple times.   Twice on our Canyons Trip, and a couple
other times.

The menu is immense, with appetizers, vege dishes, Al la Carte, side
orders,  combination dinners, Entrees, "New Yorkers" [steak with beans and
rice and veges, and salsa, and.....],Grilled Specials, Special Orders,
Lunch Onlys, Children's Plates, and Desserts.

I can't say how authentic the cooking is, but I can say that the only
language we heard in the kitchen and between the staff was Spanish [or
Mexican?].   The number of waiters kinda scared me, relative to the place
succeeding.  Too many waiters.  But who knows, maybe they are all the same
family, and need to work together to succeed.

When we sat down, even before anyone spoke to us, we got a big basket of
..... nachos I think, and a tasty but mild salsa.

I ordered # 14, a taco, a chalupa, and a chile relleno.   And Iced tea.
I loved all of them, especially the chile relleno, which was made from
poblano stuffed with cheese.  The taco was a hard tortilla in that "U"
shape and filled with lettuce and meat, and tasted great.  I didn't really
notice any cheese.  Afterward I read it should have had grated cheese in
it.   The chalupa was very good, beans and cheese with a nice green
guacamole salad on top.

Nothing was hot, but I had figured they would have nice mild food for us
WASPs.   But there was a lot of hot pepper flavor.   I added some hot green
sauce from one of the three bottles on the table.  that was good.

Shirley  ordered #18, a chalupa, an enchilada, and a burrito.  I tasted and
liked the last two, but didn't have enough to judge much about them.

I ordered a Sopapellas, a fried tortilla with honey, cinnamon, and butter,
that we split.  My that's tasty.  And big.
  
I am unable to pick a favorite, but I really enjoyed the night.  We gotta
go back soon......... but all that cheese, whoooo!  It's in everything!  I
guess I'll have to see if I can get some of those little hummers without
cheese, or with a minimum amount.
