Same here to a much lesser degree however. We just replaced our old washer 
and dryer with a set that uses much less energy, and less water as well.

In the USA, denial is still the most popular attitude, although it's more of 
an "if I hide my eyes I can't see it" sort of denial at best.

Your individual states are more autonomous and your federal government 
is "weaker" than ours. Our Federal laws (and programs too for the most part) 
supercede our State programs and laws...and when the two come into 
conflict more often than not the Federal position predominates.

-> Recycling sewage to use for drinking water is a hot subject, and
-> although done in Singapore and Washington and elsewhere, is
-> unreasonably objected to by many people.  At present partly treated
-> Adelaide waste water is piped to our main vegetable growing area, and

With the risiing price of fossil fuels alternatives sources are becoming more 
viable...with some interesting side effects...like corn being used for ethanol 
production....making corn more expensive and having the side effect of 
making products that use corn ( and High Fructose Corn Syrup) more 
expensive...like beef, and chicken, and (in the case of HFCS) Soda Pop, and 
breakfast cereals!
It's going to be an interesting time, this 21st century!
