Hi Hap,

-> hn> drought....I have no reports on whether that has affected the
 hn> humidity
-> hn> or not though.....I wonder if it has?

-> Nope, as humid as ever! Had some rain last week from Barry and related
-> systems but it's supposed to be mostly dry this week. Temps are to be
-> in the upper 80s, low 90s and humidity to match (it seems). Sure do miss
-> those trade winds!

hn> Well then there's still plenty of places for skeeters and chiggers and
hn> ticks to survive. And of course even during a major drought, the

Those, sand gnats and love bugs.

hn> swamps never dry up...just retreat a bit. My sister uses a

No, and we're right near the Forest River too.

hn> dehumidifier to keep the house nice...and it generates enough water
hn> for her plants (grin)! You'll find yourself

We probably should get one.

hn> missing Hawaii for the oddest reasons, the tradewinds not being the
 hn> least of them....Paradise Lost!

No trade winds, no small Korean bbq places, lots of things to miss about
the state. No palm trees doing the hula in high winds, as one of the
weather forcasters always said.

-> hn> washer and dryer with a set that uses much less energy, and less

-> That's why we got a Whirlpool Calypso washer 4 years ago. Steve wanted

hn> Anne wanted more space in the laundry room so we went with a
hn> vertically mounted pair. They both do a great job and are very quiet

We didn't have the head room for a verical mount, here or in any of the
quarters we've lived in.

-> I don't recall the brand of the dishwasher in this set of quarters (It's
-> an energy efficient model.) but it's the quietest one we've ever had.

hn> Our dishwasher is very energy efficient....but it's not very quiet...I
hn> tend to grumble a lot when I'm doing the dishes (grin)!

I load as many as I can into the dishwasher--saves my wrists and feet.

-> I realised a few days ago that Steve and I are going back to some of the
-> things we tried to or wanted to do before he went into the Army. We
-> wanted (but couldn't afford) a grain mill then (got it now); I used to
-> can, up up my own jams, etc (beginning to get back into that); I've
-> always made our bread either by hand or now machine; and so on. Semi
-> "back to the land" sort of stuff. We aren't totally "green" but

hn> We used to do all of that as well (grin) but with the low carb diet
hn> the bread went away...with our lessened sugar intake most of the
hn> canning went. When Amanda was young most of our back yard was veggie
 hn> garden...but when

We can't have a low carb diet with Steve's heritage--he has to have his
Italian food, pasta, pizza, etc. We've cut way back on the sugar but
not totally eliminated it. I'd like to have a veggie garden but we're
not going to be here long enough to make tearing up & replacing the back
yard a reality for one year's worth of garden.

hn> Anne went back into teaching and Amanda got invovled with after school
hn> activities our time became such that the garden never got started
hn> until mid july....simply too late for effective use. We have always

My dad put in peas before his surgery; last week he put in a few tomato
plants (no major digging done). His gardening days are getting fewer
and fewer.

hn> been "mostly" green, we've always recycled, reused, and reinvented
 hn> when we could.

Same here.

Catch you later,
