=================
Hi Michael,

RH> Math was never beautiful for me. (G)

ML> There are those who appreciate beauty in mathematics. Of
ML> course, I admit that there are probably those who find
 ML> beauty in chartered accountancy.

I can appreciate the maths used to make a Lone Star quilt with all the
points perfectly matched (It's all diamonds.) or something like that. I
actually have fun figuring out the math for rotary cutting quilt pieces
& subcutting the strips into squares, rectangles or what have you but
algebra or geometry is not fun math nor is it beautiful to see me tear
my hair out over it. (G)

RH> Yet, some people do it all the time. That's partly why we have to pay
RH> higher and higher prices for goods & services; the owner has to make a
 RH> bit of profit.

ML> What to do? If people went after theft with zeal, the costs of
ML> enforcement would initially go up (plus people who didn't really
ML> deserve the full brunt would get it); but the long term effect
ML> would probably be that costs would go down as the incidence
ML> went down. The short-term pain, though, isn't really worth the
ML> effort, according to most. There is a moral issue, perhaps, but
ML> people aren't sure where to take moral issues these days (and I
ML> will be the first to say that moral issues can be taken too far).

Yes, and it seems that people hold vastly differing standards of
morality as compared to say 50 years or so ago when there was a rather
uniform code of it, at least in this country.

RH> the beach would have been an option. Do you remember the big rock at
RH> Waimea that people (mostly guys) jumped off of? One of the guys in
RH> our group did so on Saturday but got lots of kidding after about the
 RH> tsunami he caused. (G)

ML> I remember not much about Waimea, except that there were no
ML> surfers when we were there - it was completely glassy calm.

We've seen it rocking with 30' or higher waves, but not too many surfers
then. There weren't too many out the night we went up; nobody from our
crew surfed but we all had fun anyway.

ML> I do remember (fondly) Matsumoto Shave Ice in Haleiwa, though.

That place is legendary! Japanese tourists come by the bus loads just
for the shave ice.

RH> Looks like you would be tasting the anchovies and scallions the rest
RH> of the day with this. Make sure your signifigant other eats it also so
RH> you will have the same bad breath. (G)

ML> Yeah, when Carol and I are together and one of us eats
ML> aromatic things, the rule is that the other must partake
ML> as well. This includes onions and garlic and to a lesser
 ML> extent fish and curry.

Steve and I are pretty good about both enjoying the aromatics (except
baked beans; he eats more of those than I do, by far!). Some years ago,
while we were still in AZ, our church had Wed. night suppers. One night
hamburgers were on the menu; I was going thru the condiment line loading
my burger with pickles, tomatoes, onions, etc. The older gentleman at
the onion station was teasing me that Steve wouldn't want to kiss me if
I ate onions. I laughed and told him to just wait; Steve will get them
too & then there will be no problem. He then saw Steve put just as many
onions on his burger as I did on mine & was reassured we'd both have
onion breath.

Yesterday we had lunch at Tripler because I had appointments in the late
morning and early afternoon. On the regular line we had a choice of
turkey a la king, chopped "sirloin" patties or stuffed salmon. We went
with the last choice as it was the least offensive--turned out to be
boneless salmon (probably cut from the fillets) spread with what looked
to be a thin layer of cream of mushroom soup and then something like
Stove Top stuffing mixed with butter over top of that & then baked.
Instead of white rice or noodles, we went with the 2 veggies which were
overcooked carrots and tough steamed corn on the cob.  The fish was dry;
it had been baked too long but probably just right within Army regs. Oh
well, it was something to put into out stomachs so we wouldn't have to
wait until we got home (about 2:30) to eat. I was so bummed out about
my foot (hairline fracture in the scar callous, back to wearing the
boot) that Steve took me for Anthony's pizza (I had an everything combo
slice, Steve just a cheese slice) before we did some shopping. In
preparation for our trip, we got a couple of ipod shuffles; now to load
them up w/ lots of music.

 ML> Title: Spicy Eggs

Definately not my mom's scrambled eggs with chives--the most creative
she gets with them.
