Ärende: unpopular opinions
==========================
On 06-28-07 MICHAEL LOO Scribbled to DAVE DRUM about unpopular opinions

ML> ML>For me, I pack the minimum, and if I need any extra clothing,
ML> ML>I go to K-Mart or the Rugged Wearhouse and get some.

ML> DD> I shop the Sally Anne, Goodwill or St. Martin dePorres thrift
ML> DD> shops. You can get good, serviceable (if a bit out of style)
ML> DD> duds there for really cheap prices.

ML>Why is there style? It's largely an obnoxious effort to part
ML>the insecure from their money. The world would be a far better
ML>place if people dressed the same, or at least acted as if they
ML>were dressing the same. Or at least if they all had the same
ML>clothing budget.

My problem with the places I mentioned is that the selections for people
of girth tends to be pretty stodgy. Hides the hide but does nothing to
brighten the landscape.

ML> DD> Small "c" communism is not a bad thing. It is (so far)
ML> DD> unworkable on large groups - due to the inbred cupidity of man.

ML>No indeed, but who aside from yourself and myself would advocate
ML>"from each according to his abilities, to each according to his
ML>needs"? You're right about the inbred cupidity stupidity of man,

Especially in this society (overall) at this time. We live in a culture
of greed. Some days it's hardly worth chewing through the straps. The
other day my immediate management asked me to take a couple of classes
(in house) so that I could be promoted to management status. Which I
declined.

I told them that I am making sufficient income for me needs, have
medicare parts A B and D for future needs and who needs a big pile of
dosh maundering away in some bank, anyway.

Then I mentioned that the company (Auto Zone) has the largest percentage
of Chiefs to Indians (70:30 really) of anywhere I have ever worked. And
that I have seen how they treat their managers. Bv)=

Ooooh, just looked at the recipe that the dispense spit out. I am going
to make this - soon.

Title: Fresh Green Garlic Soup With Potatoes & Mushrooms
 Categories: Soup, Potatoes
      Yield: 4 servings

1/2 oz Dried morels or other wild
           -mushrooms
      2 c Boiling water
      7 Stalks of green garlic
2 tb Extra virgin olive oil
1 lb Red new potatoes; peeled, in
           - 1/2" dice
    1/2 c Dry white wine
4 c Chicken stock or water
    1/4 lb Fresh wild mushrooms
    1/2 lb Button mushrooms
           Salt and pepper

This should take about 35 minutes to prepare.

Put the dried mushrooms in a bowl and add the boiling water. Set aside
  to steep.

Trim off the roots and the entire leafy ends of the garlic (you can
reserve the greens to slice up in a salad) and peel off any rough
outer layers. Thinly slice the white part of the stalks.

Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a large saucepan. Add all but 1
tablespoon of the garlic and saute for a few minutes, until tender.
Add the potatoes, wine and stock. Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook
until the potatoes are tender, 12 to 15 minutes.

While the soup cooks, cut the fresh mushrooms into bite-size pieces.

Heat the remaining 1 tablespoon oil in a skillet, then add the
reserved 1 tablespoon garlic. Cook for a minute, then add the fresh
mushrooms. Season with salt. Saute over medium-high heat for about 5
  minutes, until browned and tender.

Remove the dried mushrooms from their soaking liquid, squeeze dry and
slice thinly. Add the mushrooms and their soaking liquid to the soup,
being careful to leave behind any traces of sand or dirt in the
soaking water. Heat through, then season with salt and pepper. If you
used water or salt-free stock instead of broth, you will need to add
  a lot of salt.

Ladle the soup into bowls and top each serving with a portion of the
  sauteed mushrooms.

  Serves 4
