Raine's two foster kids are settling down nicely and learning how to
behave better. The little girl is not FAS at all (although she might
be slightly FAE); they have just lacked both discipline and
training, attention and affection their entire lives. They just soak
it all up like sponges. The first time I met them, Lexi said,
"that's my Gran' Papa Jim" and they immediately started calling me
"Gran' Papa" too. The aunt who took in two older sibs often has all
five kids together for a long visit and the mother has visited them
once so far. So they are not at all homesick.

Neekha seems to be completely over the ordeal of loosing a cousin.

We had a third family crisis lately, but that one ended up
completely fine in the end. Ray had a suspicious lump checked out a
week ago Monday and had it removed last Friday. It was cancerous but
they got everything and got it out early. The tests came back today:
it is all gone and there no need for radiation or chemo.

Ironically last Friday was supposed to be the first day of his
vacation and he had bought two air tickets for himself and Neekha to
go to Edmonton. So Neekha was taken to the hospital Friday night
after he came out of the anesthesia to visit and be assured that he
was indeed OK and then went off on her own, on her first
unaccompanied flight. She was picked up by Ray's father Raymond and
they are off motoring through the mountains and on to the beaches of
British Columbia. She is too busy having fun to worry about
anything.
 
Raine and Chuck started driving to Edmonton with their kids in their
large new van. (They recently traded their Toyota plus a small
amount of cash for a used mini-van to better accommodate the extra
kids.) They should arrive there Sunday, just when Raymond and Neekha
get back from B.C. Ray will fly down Sunday to join everybody as
well if he has recovered enough, which looks quite promising right
now.

So all is well.
