Ärende: Hello
=============
Hi Carol,

RH> I know, I was in the same position last year at this time with less ti
RH> (2 weeks) to go before leaving HI.

 CS> Systems pack out 10-11 SEP. I don't leave til 3 weeks later. I'll
CS> have the laptop though and hook that to the cable modem. That should
CS> work for the next 2 weeks before we have that removed and shift to a
 CS> hotel.

But you're flying pretty much direct when you leave. We left and spent
a month on the road before getting here. Then, about a week after we
got here & found we were to be in the guest house for another 5 weeks,
Steve turned Fido on so I'd have something to occupy part of my day. It
was all on the lap top for about 3 months but it beat not having any
mail.

CS> Humm, blackened sesame perchance? If so let me know as i have seen
 CS> that here.

RH> See my description to Dale; I don't think it was sesame seeds. That
RH> sounds interesting; are they that radically different from the "regula
RH> sesame seeds we get over here?

CS> I'm not sure and being so behind, I won't see the description to Dale
CS> for a bit. I havent tried them, just seen them. They make a special
CS> 'black Tahini' out of them and i know little else. They could just be
CS> pre-roasted to black for all I can tell. Come to think of it, they
CS> are a 'winter food' in this seasonal eating land so I may not see them

And the cook book is back downstairs.

CS> I wonder about this. There are some foods if you feed them too young
CS> to a child, they are very prone to developed allergies to it. Could
 CS> that be it?

RH> That, and the fact that in this family, the mom had some major allergy
RH> asthma problems. The kid was nursed but has to be supplimented--and
RH> trying to find a formula that wouldn't give him trouble was a big
RH> problem.

CS> I can imagine that. Charlotte has no known alleries. Don is allergic
CS> to penicillin but not any other antibiotics that we know of. I am
CS> allergic to betadine and atropine but nothing else.

I had no known until I got to adulthood. Now I'm allergic to Naproxin
(Aleeve) and Cingular--had a major bad reaction to that in HI about 18
months ago.

CS> That would be start of the school year. Busy time and all the locals
CS> are into it. Who were your friends? Small area and if they have
CS> lived there a long time, I might know them.

RH> They lived in Anderson but their daughter, Donna Richey was an 88

CS> I know a Richey family. Cant say as the name Donna rings any bells but
CS> if she was in Clemson in 1988, I left in 1983. There were 2 families

Donna has an older brother, Dale (4 years older) but he didn't go to
Clemson.

CS> that I recall and one I think was spelled 'Richie' but they were known
CS> 'cousins'. One white, one black, and cant recall which used which
CS> spelling. They had family in Anderson and Easley that i know of. I
CS> didnt know either set well, but in that size town, I knew of them.

The family we know is white, spelled it with the "ey".

CS> Does Clarence ring a bell anywhere for related? Car mechanic at the
 CS> time i knew him.

No, we only know the one family and met them in HI.

CS> In fact, sounds like the Houghton clan <g>. Maybe Deborah and Charles

Any relation to Willard Houghton, founder of what's now Houghton
College?

CS> Pinckny own that name now as she was an only kid so probably by now
CS> inherited the house. He makes great carved abolone jewelrey.

RH> Sounds like it would be pretty--have you seen examples of what he does

CS> I used to but I got most of his stuff as gifts for others and it's all
CS> gone now. He did great scrimshaw on various bone types when he could
CS> get it. The big 'hotel' on the hill looking over Clemson university
CS> has houses to the left of it. Dorathy and he would have owned the one
CS> about 3 from the bottom of the drop down the foot trail to town. That
CS> is, if they inherited it and I am sure they did. They may have sold
CS> it though and stayed in Atlanta.

I wouldn't know; we weren't in the area long enough--just a few days to
visit our friends. They took us up to the High Hampton Inn in NC one
day for lunch---that's a place we want to go back & stay at some day.

Catch you later,
Ruth
