CS> Grin, we leave 5 days clearance for between arrival and move in for
CS> stuff like that. We can always vacate the hotel sooner if we are

RH> We didn't have the wiggle room; Steve finished his school in San Angel
RH> on a Friday and had to be at Fort Devens about a week later. Took

Thats tight. Fortunately our main thing is to get Charlotte in school fast,
then I have 30 days leave to work out the rest.

CS> Flea bombs first day if inspections do not get in the way. We had

RH> I can't take them any more with the asthma--especially if they linger
RH> carpeting.

Well, we are lucky really. No one has much on allergies here.

 CS> possible.

RH> We would have crowded out the place with the last picnic; I think we h
RH> about 12-16 people for most gatherings, with a few more at the picnic
RH> itself.

Yeah, the Mia Casitas is also a restraunt, though not a large one. It's
attached to a small economy type hotel. We'll know more later as we plan to
stay there on the way in.

CS> Don thinks well of 'Summers Pass' which is a little less than 2 miles
CS> from home in another direction. One of the places we would never

RH> Sounds good; anything smaller than that aircraft hanger that calls
RH> itself Blob's Park. (G) Still, that was smaller than the Hofbrauhaus
RH> Rachel and David took us to in Las Vegas.

Snicker, it's a decent place. Horseshoe shaped bar with standard bar munchies
available. If you don't mind not fancy, the popcorn shrimp baskets are pretty
good. They also have fried clams that are decent and the tartar sauce at
least used to be home made right there.

There's also a chinese restraunt just up the street in another direction from
us. Having been in asia for a time, I was not incredibly impressed but I did
find the egg rolls to be quite good and everyone else raved over the place.
It doesnt look fancy but the food is even by my asian standards for such,
'adequate' for the price. It's also in the same center with the Harris Teeter
grocery store.

Too bad Momma's Kitchen folded. We'd have absolutely HAD to eat there. Cheap
looking, dirt cheap prices, and just flat out great home cooking. They also
had cans of campbells soups ad you'd pick one out for a 1$ and they'd fix you
that. Very clean, very cheap, and very good. I wrote about them here many
years ago.

CS> about 2 miles from my house). It might be good for golfing, but at
CS> night it's a hooker place and a local friend tells me is still the
CS> same. *Not* the 'hotel' to stay at. Because they are locally known
CS> also for some soft (MJ) drug use, no military should stay there.

RH> Thanks for the heads up; we still have to obey the no military rule fo
RH> a bit longer. Since neither of us golf, it sounds like we would have
RH> use for that place, even in the day time.

Me neither, but if there are some into golfing (pretty sure they have day fees
and rentals), they may be interested in it as a sidelight. Just don't stay at
the actual hotel/motel/hooker place at night <g>. I'm told they keep it
strictly clean operation during daylight and the golf course is one of the
better ones.

CS> One of the different 'options' my place offers if folks want to do it,
CS> is 1/2 day or 1 day (6 and 12 hour respectively) ocean fishing trips.
CS> It would be very easy to contract a boat just for us. Cost per person

RH> That's an option, but one we wouldn't rate very high on our "got to do
RH> list. How much would it cost those that wanted to ride along but not
RH> fish?

Grin, sorry but the price would be the same. I'd also advise folks took
dramamine or some other motion sickness solution before going out if they
arent used to such. Even I would as the short chop isnt the same as a big
navy ship motion. I recon some would want to go a 1/2 day trip and the
others, perhaps i could line up a ship tour or something else interesting.

For a fishing trip BTW, you don't need any gear at all. They have loaners of
everything. Suggested though is a cooler and a large box of large sized
ziplock baggies. They normally will clean your catch for about 2$ a fish.
I'll have to check current prices on that though. Worth every penny if you've
a big group of stuff. No prior experience needed though those with experience
obviously tend to catch more fish <g>.

CS> Clam fest fun, but lookie what I did with this little pan-fry I caught
 CS> *myself* (hehehe).

RH> I can imagine the possibilities with this group. (G)

Oh yeah! Hey, depending on the timing, Don knows some good crabbing spots too.
Has to be the right season for that down VB area and I'm not sure if that
matches the northern area timing. Softshells and blue shells are the local
favs. Not much to the claws but the center body is good eats.

RH> Or we'll do the Designated Driver thing. In MD, we had Joan and Glen
RH> passengers for all the Friday fun stuff--made it more fun, especially

CS> Works for me! I am familiar with the local Taxi company and if we
CS> need one, we had best set a time 3-5 days in advance. It's a high use
CS> area for such but oddly not enough taxis to go around so sometimes,
CS> you can wait an hour for one.

RH> In that case, pre arrainged is much better. We all left Blob's
RH> early-ish and regathered back at the Shipp's house.

Would be like that, designated drivers or a pre-set taxi pickup run.

                                       xxcarol
