===================
Ahoy Ruth!
->
-> HN> One day at a time is the best pace! And a sense of humor sure can
->  HN> help!
->
-> Sometimes I've got to go at a pace of less than a day at a time. But,
-> step by step, this will be beat. And, I agree, a sense of humor is one
-> of the best weapons in the fight--as you know, I've got that part down
-> pretty well.
->
Rely on it when in need, and don't forget that we all care!

-> ->  HN> http://www.thefair.com/puyallup-fair/ Have a look, it's one of
the
->
-> -> OK, it's worth a look. Wish I could walk around one better but any
-> -> walking is better than none.
->
-> HN> You can rent wheelchairs or walkers or canes at the fair! Lots of
-> HN> benches to rest upon, and lots and lots and LOTS to see!
->
-> I'm not ready for a wheelchair yet! I do have a cane and as long as I
-> can sit down from time to time, I'd be OK. The worst times are when
-> Steve's looking at something; I generally wander a bit so as to keep
-> moving. Standing still is harder on my foot than moving around a bit.
->
Which is why a wheelchair isn't such a bad idea...not that you need to be
immobile to use one...but it can keep you off your feet a whole lot of the
time when you'd just be punishing them by standing about. A while back when
my knee was acting up and I knew I'd be spending the day "out" we used a
chair and I was able to do the whole day...as opposed to only being good
for about 3 hours and then needing to quit for the day. It felt a little
strange to be in one...but it all the difference in a good day vice a very
tough one! I opted for good!

-> -> HN> All us great cheffs does it that way (grin)
->
-> -> Is there any other way to do it? (G)
->
-> HN> Actually at the fair I saw the "new invention" from France...a
small
-> HN> pottery saucer in which a cicular pattern of sharp "nibs" had been
-> HN> made (sort of like secular rows of very small teeth). Garlic, or
->  HN> ginger, or
-> HN> chocolate,hard cheese, even nutmeg are grated across these nibs and
-> HN> then brushed out to be used however you wish......very similar to
the
->  HN> very
-> HN> lightweight ginger grater I have at home. nice gadget...bad part is
-> HN> there's no protection for fingers...and those little nibs can
"nibble"
-> HN> fingers just as well and fast as garlic!
->
-> I saw one of those in the fancy kitchenware store in town. Guess I
-> won't be buying it; I can tear up my knuckles easily enough as is with
-> my other "toys".
->
I have a cheap (some kind of brass colored metal) ginger grater that I
bought for like $1.20 or so at an asian grocery....it works on the same
premise as the ceramic one for a whole lot less and it does the job just
fine, and cleans up in a jiff!

-> -> HN> Loves the brussels sprouts I do! Yeppers! Indeeed!
->
-> -> I do too but I understand where he's coming from on that one. Seems
when
-> -> he was a kid, his dad did some work for somebody & got paid with a
-> -> bushel of the sprouts. With 5 kids and hard times, his parents were
-> -> ones not to let food go to waste so....................to this day,
none
-> -> of them like the sprouts.
->
-> HN> I can understand that totally...maybe more than totally (grin)
->
-> Sort of like my parents and the 5 of us kids regarding school lunches.
-> Nine of 10 dys were (smooth, cheapest available) peanut butter and
-> (usually) grape jelly white (ballon, cheap) bread sandwiches. Tenth day
-> may have been a slice of bologna or Kraft type (no, not the two
-> together) cheese with a smear of yellow mustard white bread sandwich. To
-> this day I avoid cheap bologna, Kraft type "cheese" slices, pb and
-> yellow mustard. Grape jelly is OK but I'd rather have some other if
-> possible and bread is most often a whole grain type.
->
For us baloney was such a treat I still like it (grin)...and it was apple
jelly and pb for us, or cheese and apple jelly on (of course) white bread.

-> -> BTW, Steve said he will let pepperoni be part of the honerable
vegetable
-> -> category but right now that's the only pork product he will designate
-> -> so.
->
->  HN> Give him time, he'll learn!
->
-> I'm giving him plenty of time; he's made progress in the past couple of
-> years from none at all to bits and bites.
->
->
A journey of a thousand meals begins with but a single bite (grin)
chat with you soon
