A brief synopsis of the lost messages, trimmed and sans recipes:

To: Carol Shenkenberger Subj: Java or Home?

CD> They have others headed there and we are headed back.

Hah! Somebody should tell Washington....

"The USS Essex, a military hospital ship, is en route to the affected
area, White House deputy press secretary Dana Perino said." - AP

Hey, I just read about a Korean hamburger that reminded me of your
Sasebo burgers.

Lotteria's Frico Cheeseburger (Korea)

info

When you take a food that comes from one culture and develop it in
another, you can get some crazy concoctions that are either divine or
downright pukeworthy. Sushi came to America and the California Roll was
born. Mayonnaise came to Japan and created some ungodly creations.

Lotteria recently revealed a new invention that was a bit unconventional
-- the Frico Cheeseburger.

The top layer is pickles, onions, lettuce, cheese sauce, and tomato on
top of a meat patty.

Under the patty is the "Frico" in the "Frico Cheeseburger". It's a
breaded and fried patty of Dutch Maasdam cheese.

Let me repeat that. It's a breaded and fried patty of Dutch Maasdam
cheese. That is just pure evil putting that in a burger.

Ooh, and what's this surprise at the bottom? A ring of yellow pepper
with a smattering of black olives. Whodathunk?

It is one of the best fast food hamburgers I have ever tried. I'm
serious. Who in America would think of putting yellow peppers and black
olives on a mass market hamburger? It takes someone from a different
culture to go outside the conventional rules and think of something like
that.

To: Glen Jamieson Subj: PESTS 60602

JW> can't wait for Alex to visit to see how she reacts to them.

GJ> Should be interesting. She may see them as food!

That's what Neekha was afraid of! It went off quite well though. Alex
was quite content to merely gaze at them through the glass (they are in
an aquarium, sans water). I said "mouse" and she parroted "Mo". Then she
looked wistful and pointed to one, "Inka Mo?".

"Yes it's Neekha's."

Staring at the other mouse.... "Mo....Mine?"

She looked so sad at the prospect of not having her own mouse that
Neekha relented and "gave" her one.

Tonight I babysat both of them from 5-7 PM and we had the little varmints
out of their lair. Alex gave out a little squeal of delight and,
imitating Neekha, picked one up very carefully and gently. Then she
kissed it! Which pissed off Roslind no end; she is convinced I've gone
bonkers in my old age.

 JW> biology [and] higher mathematics.

GJ> Did she come up with the correct number?

She did good with the first 2 generations. 2+12+12=26 but then it got a
little fuzzy. She figured the next generation would be 12 dozen. I
pointed out that she would (most likely) have 6 breeding pairs, so 6
dozen plus grandma mouse wouldn't stop, so 7 dozen more. She got
exasperated at this point saying they hadn't gotten as high a 7X12 at
school yet, just 5X5. So I asked her to estimate (new concept) and she
thought about one hundred. And when they started breeding to, perhaps a
thousand. Close enough. Estimating is a valuable tool too.

To: Glen Jamieson Subj: booze runners

GJ> So how do you get any booze to your Boston home from out of state?

There are no regular domestic border inspections within countries on
state or provincial borders. The cops play a numbers game. Michael
mentioned them monitoring border store parking lots around Christmas.
The only time the Ontario-Quebec border is monitored is when there is a
beer strike in one province and not the other. (Bastards!)

To: Joan Macdiarmid Subj: KFC's Famous Bowls

JM> Everyone in the USA but Michael wants a little cheese on
 JM> everything, you might think.

Some days, I do think that. And it spills over into Canada with the
international fast food franchises. I love cheese in its place but
really dislike melted goop on everything.

To: Carol Shenkenberger Subj: Cooking Websi 663

 ML> Strange people, those Japanese:

JW>I will admit that Japanese dishes require more odd little bits

CS> True to an extent but many times, it's more just a strange name for a
 CS> fairly normal item.

If you count burdock root and seaweed as normal. [G]

  From: Neekha

You are such a doink!
