Ärende: Restaurant Adriatic
===========================
Hi everyone,

I took Ruth to the Restaurant Adriatic for our anniversary. She said it
was my turn to write a review.

The restaurant is owned by a man originally from Croatia. It is
architecturally plain with a few nice decorative touches, the main one
of which is a large urn in the center that has water flowing over it.
There are tables set up in spaces that would be booths in other
restaurants. We sat in at one of those tables rather than at a
free-standing one in the middle. The restaurant is small. The whole
restaurant would probably be about equivalent to the one room in
Dimitri's where we had dinner at this year's picnic. There were several
groups in the restaurant. It was not full, but it was busy. There was
only one waitress, who was very pleasant. The background music was a
mix of classical and soft modern, at a level loud enough to hear, but
not so loud as to make one have to raise his/her voice to be heard over
it.

We started out by splitting an appetizer of spanikopita. This one was
more of an egg and cheese flavor with some spinach, but not so much as I
would have expected. It had a very good flavor. Ruth commented that
the phylo was not too thick or tough.

We followed that up with salads. I had a Romainian salad which had
chunks of cucumber, tomato, and green bell pepper. It also had garlic,
walnuts, goat cheese, parsley, and I tasted onion as well. The dressing
thoroughly covered the ingredients but didn't overpower the taste of
them. It was excellent.

Ruth had a Greek salad, which was fairly standard with shredded greens
(probably romaine), tomato, black olives, green onion, and feta cheese.
It had an oil and vinegar dressing that started out mild, but grew
stronger as she got toward the bottom of the bowl.

The bread served wth the salads was the only disapponting thing. It
looked like a fairly standard french bread, served cold with Country
Crock spread. Ruth and I would have expected a more rustic bread,
served warm with real butter.

The entrees were superb. I had lamb chops. There were five on the
plate with four stalks of asparagus and alternating carrot strips and
green beans. The lamb chops were a perfect medium, savory and every
bit as good if not better than the ones I had at Dimitri's, which is to
say, excellent. The vegetables were perfectly cooked, tender-crisp and
delicious.

Ruth had Dubrovacki Medaljoni, which was pork tenderloin medallions in a
marasaka cherry wine sauce. Hers came with portabella mushroom strips,
asparagus, and green and red bell pepper slices. She said the pork was
succulant, not tough, but not quite fork-tender. Again, it was
excellent and the vegetables were perfectly cooked.

We finished with crepes. I had a crepe with apricot preserve filling.
It was good, but it had a few spots that tasted charred, like they left
the crepe on the griddle just a bit too long. Ruth had one special made
which was a combination of two on the menu. She asked for and got one
filled with strawberry and with chocolate drizzled over the top. She ws
very pleased with it..

Dinner came in at a just under $100.00 with tax (but not the tip), which
is about what I was expecting. It was neither cheap nor fast, but a
thoroughly enjoyable evening where we didn't feel rushed to gulp things
down to make room for the next group. From time to time, we could hear
pounding from the kitchen, and from the speed and taste of our dinners,
we figured that things were being made as they were ordered and not
pre-cooked, which definitely contributed to the taste.

Ruth and I would rate this restaurant as very good. We definitely would
return to it.

Regards,

Stephen
