Wish us luck.  Though the fence all along our backyard, actually belongs
to the various neighbors, it's completely down in one section.  We are
contacting the owners (used to be Jimmy James who died, now his daughter
rents the house out) to get permission to put up replacement fencing.
The renters are good ones and the neighbors tell us they will happily
help put it in.

Ok, 'trip report'.  The flight was long and i do mean that.  It came in
3 pieces and between 'air time' and layover, was some 21 hours total.  I
think the worst part was Dulles and the international immigration
section wth the silliest luggage pickup you've ever seen.  Pick it up,
trot it about 25 yards, then drop it off at another spot (all unopened,
all unchecked).  There was zero reason for them to not just do this step
internally but it took over 1 hour due to slow delivery for pickup.  Got
yelled at because I had our airline tickets in my hand (had to run them
through the scanner!  I kid you not!).

The nicest airport was probably Norfolk (ORF).  The econolodge we are
staying at isnt great but its ok.  Clean but well careworn, the WIFI
isnt working (r I have a computer problem, cant tell) and seems not all
the hotel is wired for ethernet yet (our room is slated for later so I'm
online with a fast cheap juno).  The Mi Casita restraunt is just as good
as I recall.  Had Mole Poblano chicken for dinner.

I got a car this morning (Nissan Maxima) and this afternoon we drove to
the house.  Oh my. Could have been worse though.  Almost everything
'bad' is cosmetics well within our own ability to fix.  The few things
that arent (fireplace work, broken bathroom window) will have to hire
someone for.  The back yard now has 'trees' all along the fence where we
used to plant a minigarden.  I want to trim them first and see what's
useful.  We got in when the window fell out in the back bedroom when I
peered up close to try to see in.  That back bedroom was the one we knew
needed rebuilding so I'm not that upset.

Inside, some of the outlets and light switches have been partly ripped
out of the walls but we think we can fix that.  The screens on the back
porch are history but we can fix that easy.  The missing screen door is
kinda wierd though.  Some brick damage to the outside grill but not real
bad.  The grate-door that lets to the outside on the fireplace has
rusted out (guess they didnt know to tend it) and the fireplace screen
(was a nice brushed gold look) has gone all funky (also needs tending to
keep it well and they probably didnt know how).

The extra chest freezer is still there along with all other appliances.
Oddly the freezer shelves are missing from the refridgerator freezer.

They didnt take the trash to the curb, but the place is actually quite
clean.  They must not have had a use for the movable section of the
kitchen cabinets as they were on the back porch (water damaged now).
Also the indoor-outdoor carpet is missing from the back porch.  The AC
unit is missing from the back bedroom (window unit).  The new carpet
they put in is fine in all but the living room (big seam, coverable
though by a carpet I have).  They put down some linoleum before the
fireplace and it's peeling up.

In short, mostly cosmetic.  Things that will take us time to fix, but
things we can fix.  I will grant that the place is quite clean.  Now to
contact the household goods place and see how fast we can get some stuff
delivered.
