====================================================================
Hi Hap,

-> Have they got a menu posted yet?
 HN> ->
 HN> Nope, but when I went by there today there was someone inside
 HN> working...that's a good sign!

Usually a very good sign. Especially if they come back the next day and
work more.

-> HN> good source of comfort food for Annie who has German roots.
 HN> ->
-> It is sad; you really need both a good business head and a good cook to
-> make a place work. If the food is good, people will come but if the
-> food isn't so great, it'll be evedent by the lack of customers, no
-> matter how business smart the owners are.

 HN> It's sad indeed, the food was top rate, Saubraten one week (on
 HN> Saturdays only) and Roladin(sp?) the next week and great items on the
 HN> rest of the menu...I usually got the Jaegerschnitzel, oh was that
 HN> good!! AND they had good German Desserts as well!

Sounds like it was much better than the ill fated trip to Blob's Park.
The jagerschnitzel was OK but other things were much less than stellar.
But, the company was fun.

-> We're headed up to eastern NC this week end; I already told Steve I want
-> to eat at Moore's BBQ in New Bern and T&W Oyster Bar in Cape Carteret.

 HN> Gonna stop at South of the Border??(grin)

We did, and that was probably the least favorite of our meals. I had a
bbq sandwich, Steve had a ruben (as spelled on the menu). Just not that
great a meal as compared to the next one at T&W's. It's owned by
someone we knew; he's still active but not as much so in the day to day
running of the place. Steve had scallops panned in butter; I ordered the
shrimp panned in butter. The waitress brought out 2 scallops orders
instead so we mentioned I'd asked for shrimp. She checked, and yes,
she'd made the mistake. Shrimp was brought out a few minutes later and
we were told to enjoy the scallops, no charge. The scallops were small
but tasty; the shrimp was a bit bigger but fantastic! They were cooked
to the absolute peak of perfection, not a moment more. A hint of garlic
would have been nice but not totally neccessary. My appetite was a bit
off so we took most of one order of scallops and most of the shrimp back
to our room, along with some hush puppies. Stopped at a grocery store
the next day and got a bit of DIY salad bar stuff to go with the seafood
for lunch. Even cold the shrimp were still great; the scallops not
quite as good but still OK. We each had a small salad with our original
meal, as well as a couple of sides and hush puppies. The hush puppies
were the standard, no onion or extra corn in them but well cooked, no
extra grease.

 HN> We have a pretty big (and growing) Samoan population as well.

Some of those guys are pretty big! (G)

-> HN> INCREDIBLE!!!! Chocolate mousse with something crunchy in it and
-> HN> chocolate cookies that were halfway between brownies and fudge they

-> .........................the dessert guy. I'm sitting here drooling at
-> the offerings.
 HN> ->
 HN> Oh yeah! (grin) Right next to the desserts was the coffee and so all
 HN> my co-workers and I sat there and ate chocolate mousse and drank
 HN> coffee...the sound system was malfunctioning so when the big corporate
 HN> guys were making speeches it was quiet back where we were...so we just
 HN> had more coffee and mousse! A GREAT time was had by all !

Sounds like one of the military events we went to one time in Berlin.
We were off in another room with several other couples; I think about 4
tables. The speaker system between the 2 rooms wasn't working well so
we only heard little snippets of the program. One of the other tables
was a bit rowdy but we had a nice quiet group at ours with good
conversation.

-> HN> on the mousse! It was the best mousse I've ever had!
 HN> ->
-> And nobody was the wiser. (G)
 HN> ->
 HN> Oh they knew...but happily they had more mousse back there than we
 HN> could eat so there was plenty for all!

That's good.

-> HN> I'll be making some Ibarra mexican hot chocolate this weekend, it's
-> HN> gonna be cold and wet..good time for stews and hot chocolate!

-> I'm hoping for sunny weather this week end, at least in NC. On our way
-> over to the clinic a couple of hours ago, the radio station local

 HN> Today is the warmest sunniest day of the last couple of weeks...it's
 HN> 4:45pm and it's 60 degrees out...and tomorrow the bad weather returns!
 HN> Made
 HN> porkchops and mushrooms in a dijon cream sauce last night, very hearty

Looks good. We started with a rainy week end but it cleared off late
Saturday morning. Encountered more rain on our way home (including some
rather hard downpours) but we'd had a good week end otherwise.
