Hi Hap,

 hn> Looks like Doc's is down and out again...seems like just a trickle of
 hn> mail! ->

Looks like Doc needs a check up. (G) I had one today with my PCM,
platelet count is still up; it was last "normal" 3 years ago so he sent
me for a chest x-ray & beginning to wonder about the why's & wherefores.
But....................one of the first questions he asked me was if I'd
heard from the "Jeopardy" folks yet about coming in for a taping. No
word yet so I told him that "they're saving the best for last". Anyway,
one more visit to him before moving & probably at least 3 more to other
places in Tripler befroe the end of August.

-> hn> During a contest you get points for the quality of the wave you

-> hn> how many you catch, and good surf ettiquette (you'll lose points if

-> Steve commented that we've become somewhat jaded now; we don't
 hn> consider
-> surf high unless it's over 30 feet. (G)

 hn> Style and form are just two components that are judged during a meet.
 hn> Used to be that it was no more than 30% of your score with difficulty
 hn> of moves, about 20%, number of waves about 40% and ettiquette about
 hn> 10%. You
 hn> could be aggressive but not obnoxious (grin). When I worked as a

It's really a lot for the judges to try & keep track of. Do they assign
one or two contestants per judge just to make it easier knowing who to
watch & when?

they had a pool of hires that were willing to come in on short notice.

 hn> at north shore surf, you'll change your definition of "big surf"
 hn> forever!

We've spent 5 winters looking at them; the surf along Georgia probably
seldom gets to even 15 feet unless there's a hurricane coming thru. Oh
well, we've been spoiled.

-> hn> world ranking at the time. I was invited to the world championships in
-> hn> Santiago Chile in 1969....but the navy had other plans for me at that

-> hn> name and that was more than most!

-> That's a whole lot better than I'll ever be! (G)

 hn> Well it was a short phase of my life and glory was certainly fleeting!
 hn> I doubt if
 hn> anyone remembers most of the people I surfed/competed against in those
 hn> days. Still I loved it and am glad that I got to experience it!

Yes, we all have 15 minutes of fame in some area of our lives. If I'd
had the time/money, I could have gone on the junior tennis tour as a
teen but had neither of the above coming form a family that stressed
academics over sports. Money was earned for giving us college
educations; we had to do our part by taking a college entrance
curriculum vs a secretarial or trades one in high school. Sports was
pretty much limited to the 5 days a week PE classes.

-> We're down to under 100 days here (double digit midget) so we're going
-> back to some of our favorite places to eat for what will probably be the
-> and will return to once more before leaving. One of Steve's uncles is
-> coming in next week for a visit so we'll probably take him to our
-> favorite seafood place and possibly a luau. I do want to go back to the

 hn> So much to do and so little time! At least Steve's not being rotated

So far, no.  Deborah was reactivated but to work on this border detail;
she's in communications and knows how to run a computer--skills that
were not strong points in the unit she's attached to. Nice thing is,
she can stay where she is; she doesn't have to move to the border area.

 hn> rotation.....held on a stop loss and really unhappy about it this
 hn> time. One of the Officers in his unit is refusing to go and may get
 hn> courtmartialled over it. Now the troops are calling it iraqnam.

I don't know if you're aware or not--this officer's dad is a big name in
state politics so it's quite the hot button issue over here. With so
many active duty and retired living in the state, it's very much in the
news. So far, the majority opinion seems to be that he knew what he was
doing when he went into the Army and got his commission (post 9/11/01)
so...........................................

After my appointment, x-ray & wait at the pharmacy, the friend that went
with me to Tripler and I ate at a Shiro's Saimen place. This guy (in
his mid 80s or so) has several saimen places on the island; the menu for
just the saimen at this place had over 40 varieties listed. I had a
generic wu ton one; the medium bowl was almost too much for me to eat.
But, I made it, by leaving a lot of my broth behind & glad I didn't go
for the large bowl.

Catch you later,
