Ärende:  Kroger store, good plac
================================
Hiya Carol!
( and Don and Charlotte too!)
->
-> -> A Kroger store is next to the Home Depot now. I went in after
getting
-> -> the chimney cap while the chimney repairs were being done.
->
-> HN> My sister in Knoxville shops at a Kroger (we don't have them out
here
-> HN> on the best coast). She calls it Kay Rogers (grin)and evidently
it's
->  HN> pretty good.
->
-> It will be like anything else, at least partly dependant on the folks
that work
-> there. This particular one, attracted me mostly due to the people
working
-> there.
->
They do make all the difference in the world! The most expensive store in
my town is Metropolitan Market, very very upscale and pricey...yet I shop
there for deli meats (they ship em in from the east coast) and special
order Anne's decaffienated tea (which ends up being cheaper than anywhere
else I can find it by almost $4.50 a pound!)! The store manager, cheese
lady, bread lady, grocery manager, produce manager and wine manager all
know me by name. The fish manager and meat manager at least recognize me by
sight. It's nice to get that kind of service!

-> -> not actually patis at all. The soy sauce choices were decent except
-> -> they do not have Datu Puti.
->  ->
-> -> Get this, the store clerk drew me a map on how to find where the
Asian
-> -> Grocery moved to! He also called the manager and they wrote down
the
-> snips
->
-> HN> That's good service! It's good to have friends in the store! Now
that
-> HN> you're back in the 'States, you might have a look at
-> HN> mapquest.com...they are pretty good for maps and driving
instructions
-> HN> from place to place! For example if you were going to take a
weekend
-> HN> off and go visit Georgia Ruth, you could mapquest driving
instructions
-> HN> from your door to hers, with mileage and approximate driving times!
->
-> Yes, used it a few times already. Useless in Sasebo, but useful here!
->
Yup, didn't figure you'd get much use out of it in Sasebo...but it's a whiz
to use around your area if you're going somewhere to pick something up off
a craigslist ad!
->
-> -> The stock fellow has a handout from his home computer, available on
-> -> request which we got. It lists the names of lower sodium products
to
-> -> help shoppers. Brand name and all, for things they carry. Like, it
-> -> lists Contadina and Rotel as good choices for tomato canned
products.
->
-> HN> Yay for Rotel! I love that stuff for my chili con queso dip (one
can
->
-> We use it in lots of things.
->
^-^ Mee too!

-> -> On to the fish section, we found the first place here with good
looking
-> -> fish at a decent price. We were *not* amused at the commisary fish.
->
->  HN> I don't like farm raised salmon...but that's because I can catch my
-> HN> own or buy locally caught wild salmon. Don't like the flavor of
Farm
-> HN> raised, and my personal preference is wild caught Pacific salmon
coho,
->  HN> chinook, or sockeye.
->
-> Well, I dont have that option and farm raised means I'm not depleting
ocean
-> stock (probably not a concern, but it's in my mind still).
->
I know I'm spoiled when it comes to good seafood...even though I don't get
it very often as Anne won't eat anything that gets wet during it's lifetime
(grin)!

-> -> Shrimp were quite reasonable with prices ranging on size. The
customers
-> -> here do not like them with the heads, so I asked the 'fishmonger'
(who
-> -> is also the butcher) if i can get the heads for a soup pot and he
-> -> laughed and said yes. That normally he has to throw them out due to
not
->
-> HN> Odds are the shrimp are from SE Asia as well! I may ask my fish guy
if
-> HN> I can get the heads too...make up a big batch of shrimp stock! 50c
a
-> HN> pound sounds a little high though....bet you could haggle him down
a
->
-> Its a set price and he hasnt any options. Also seasonal availability.
->
-> HN> Ask him to save you some bones too! And ask him if you can get a
-> HN> better price on the bigger cuts he gets in (and cut and freeze them
-> HN> yourself). Here we will often save a good bit if we buy the "family
->  HN> pak" or full cryovac'd cut.
->
-> Bones, I think maybe but didnt ask. Cutting down services are free for
most
-> cuts (except he doenst debone chicken for free).
->
Most of our stores usually have a discount (per pound price) if you buy the
cryopac size (or ten pounds or more at a time), which is a good deal if you
have the freezer space to store it.

-> HN> Hmmmm, still no mention of cheese (grin)
->
-> Nope.
->
Testing your willpower? (grin)

-> HN> other projects too...how's that back fence doing?
->
-> Got chicken wire up to keep the kid out, and waiting for the install
sometime
-> late this week or next week.
->               xxcarol

Sounds like the Refit is proceeding ahead of schedule! Well done to all
hands! (grin)
chat with you soon
