Why Hello There Greg!
->
-> -> To my taste, scallops are at the top of the scale for edible marine
-> -> life, even above oysters and lobsters.
->  ->
-> HN> I like scallops, but there are so many other seafoods that I have a
-> HN> yen for as well...scallops are good...but not at the top of my
list...I
-> HN> like halibut, salmon, crab, shrimp, oysters...and oh so many others
as
-> HN> well! Squid and octopus are great as well!
->
-> I like all those, but wild-caught barramundi would be my favourite fish.
->
For my very very very favorite fish I suppose it would be a tossup between
frech caught halibut or fresh caught salmon, or maybe even
lingcod...although kelp greenling is awfully good too! In any case it's
usually a cold water fish that I enjoy the most!

-> -> HN> I like crab, and would not be averse to giving the ones my
daughter
-> -> HN> works with a try...but that might interfere with her permits to
->  HN> catch
->  ->
-> -> The ones I ate may have been soft-shelled, or it may have been a
-> -> characteristic of them, but they were fully edible, and delicious.
->  ->
-> HN> When they are that small I wonder if it really matters whether they
-> HN> are in the soft shell stage or not. Amanda gathers most of her
-> HN> specimens for her experiments from areas that are not available to
the
-> HN> public, and she has to have government permits...so there may be
-> HN> restrictions on how she disposes of them as well.
->
-> What does she do with the tiny crabs she catches? Are the remains
-> still edible when she has finished experimenting on them? I would not
-> expect her permits to specify approved methods of disposal.
->
Usually she freezes them to kill them and then disposes of them. Most of
the permits she holds are for gathering species from government sites where
the general population if forbidden to gather them. To prevent abuse of
those permits I'm pretty sure they do proscribe consuming any of the
gathered species.

-> Last night I was watching a doco on what is supposed to be the world's
-> largest salt-water crocodile farm, near Cairns in N Queensland. One
-> problem was that during the coldest months of the year, when the
-> maximum temperature sinks below 38C, growth ceased and production
-> stopped. Nine kilometres away a sugar cane refinery had trouble
-> getting rid of a lot of surplus hot water, so the croc man did a deal
-> and ran a pipeline across neighbours' properties, under a road and a
-> railway, to get some of this hot water. He hadn't done any
-> calculations, but just hoped it would work. After 2 days of anxious
-> waiting by the end of the pipe, the water smelled of molasses and ran
-> warm, settling down to a constant 42C, running into the croc ponds.
-> Now he, his crocs and the sugar refinery manager are all happy.
-> Likewise the manager of the local abattoirs, who sells more meat
-> offcuts for croc food. The skins mainly go to France to be made into
-> handbags, while the meat is exported and sold in Australia.
->
A wonderful example of making positive's out of negatives!

->  Categories: Seafood, Appetizers
->       Yield: 30 Servings
->
Ahhh, the famous Loo Rangoons! I really need to make these some day!
chat with you soon
