Hi!

Got there at last today.  Long day.  It started with the eye appointments for
me and Charlotte.  Shock, Charlotte needs bfocals!  The Doc says it's actually
not at all uncommon and kids grow out of it.  They normally don't give them 
unless it's bad enough to cause problems with school work.  Her's is bad enough
but the Doc says about 50% chance she won't need them next year.  I got me new
bifocals too as my old ones were not the thin-line tye and were so heavy, they 
gave me blisters behind the ears.  These will look normal thin and be
'progressives'.  Actually, Charlottes are too.  They advised the lines but I 
don't want her picked on in school for wearing bifocals.  This way, they can't 
tell.  She'll probably mention it but that's fine.  It's the looks that will 
get her picked on <grin>.

Ok, off then to get her a black skirt, black tights, black shoes, white shirt
all for chorus (they have an event comming up).  All has to be plain and that
was actually kinda hard to find.  Couldnt find a skirt smaller than size 4 but
it fits well enough.  Found a closeout lamp for 9.97$ for Charlotte's room.
It's actualy a quite nicelamp.  Last one left and full price was 100$.

Ok, that burned up the morning.  Now tot he stuff you wanted to hear about.

Asian Grocery, Great Neck in Virginia Beach.  It's where my old Asian Grocery
moved to.  It's also much bigger than the old one.

Spend 74$ and got a weeks worth of groceries pretty much.  I didnt really need
that much but I couldnt resist.  It fit just barely in the freezer.  I didnt
get
but 1.5 hours if that to peruse the isles and that's not long enough for a
place
like that, but I found _most_ of what i was looking for.  The nly thing I didnt
see was my Korean sauce i used to get loads of every trip to Korea.  They had
some other things and i am sure something close to it was there, just not the
plastic bottle I recognize.  I did find a new 'hot-sweet' chicken sauce with
only 300mg sodium per 2TB serving.

I didnt see dried bonito for dashi but it's there I am sure.  They carry 4
types
of 'live' seaweeds and they said seasonally they have others there. They have 
fresh tofu at 4 cubes a dollar (each about 3/4 the size of thr water packed
ones
at stores).  I got 2.  Live blue crabs, got 3 at 1.69lb. 1 gindai (Thanks!  
Snapper), 3 opelu (sp?  Believe english is scad?) and a perfect butterfish. 
Also 6 '?otenu?' (Japanese phonetic, may be wrong but I think that was the
name) a small fish just right for fishsticks.  Related to the makeral but
smaller and not as strong).  Yeah I know, I havent been shopping in english
for fish for a time ;-)

I didnt search for the shaved bonito as i scored the only decent brand of 
dashi powder.  For 15.99$ got a BIG box and the fixings would have cost me
more.
Hon-dashi from Ajinomoto company.  2 TB per cup and gosh, it's gonna make
something like 15 gallons out of that box.  I did get some nori and other kelp
and some cuttlefish (dried) for making another version.

Got kangkoon, baby bok choy, cucumbers (real cheap there, 70cents a lb),
daikon,
kamoboko, several frozen bags of 'quick fry in oil' won-ton like thingies with
pork and vegetable or seafood and vegetable.  Got japanese fishballs, star
anise, bitter melon, several seasoning packets, chile oil, my fav datu puti 
spiced vinegar, pickled radish (hot), ChoTai brand coconut cream powder, and 
some other flotsam not comming to mind just now <grin>.  Oh, noodle bowls, and
some candies as well as hotspiced dried peas.  Even found 3liter containers of
pocari sweat!  Skipped that this time though at 4.99$.

Tonight's dinner will be a bit odd as we had beef ribs marinading and have to 
cook them tonight.  They will be matched with a crab each, and some veggies
and rice.

For weather, glad to get home when we did.  It sure looks like snow out there.
The ground is too warm to stick yet, but it is dropping temps fast.  The 
fireplace was just lit so isn't keeping the heat from kicking in yet.
