Sorry, slipped into mil-speak there.  FRG stands for Family Readiness
Group; it is the main source of official information for the spouse of a
deployed member of the (in this case,) Army. They also serve as a
support group for those left "at home" and many other roles in the
spousal unit.  The FRG leader works with the company commander to ensure
official information is the only thing put out, those that need help are
brought to his (her) attention, etc.  If the company commander is
deployed, the rear detachment (rear det) works with the FRG as well.
It's basically so the soldier can do his/her job without worry about the
spouse at home getting help, having someone to talk to, etc.

Yes, and I should have realised, knowing you were back, you would catch
me on the military terminology.

Along the same line, yesterday I made a pot of pea (P) soup, or, as our
girls used to call it, green soup.  This time I sauteed some celery,
carrot, onion and garlic in olive oil before adding the dried peas and a
smoked turkey wing.  Let it cook about 4 hours, then pulled the turkey
wing out, dessicated the meat from it and added it back (after I pureed
the soup with my boat motor [stick blender]).  Then I cooked it for a
few more (about 3) hours, adding some salt and pepper about an hour
before serving.  It was thick enough you could almost stand a spoon
upright in it and yummy.  Held out about a quart for a luch this week
and put about the same amount in the freezer for another time.
