Can you describe the flavor?  It's a sealed jar so I do not know what annatto
smells like or tastes like.  As far as i know, I have never had it.

One thing we all know, is the area you live in starts to influence your
cookery,
partly because what's available and partly 'it just does'.  I am seeing a shift
here that may not be obvious to the rest of you, but to a less Japan style and 
more filipeno, cajun, and greek influence.  A bit of italian is slipping in.
Most of these are 'american fusion' versions (well, Cajun is American anyways).

Oh, unrelated question.  I saw a cooking show where they made artichokes and
iy seems there a purple pretty center but they removed it.  Does it taste bad 
or is it poisonous?  Don was thinking it might not be good for you to eat but 
wasnt sure.

Unrelated to anything but i thought you'd enjoy it.  Charlotte had her school
first chorus and band plus orchestra show yesterday.  The school has a marching
band (almost all were things like trombones but there was a drum noticed).  The
orchestra was mostly woodwinds and violin type stringed things.  One girl with 
the violin had several solo bits and we thought her quite good.  Overall, all 
3 groups were quite good and pieces were worked in for each group to perform
alone, or with one or both others.  One song was a little painful (something
they called 'American Anthem Medly', bits of all sorts of songs melded
together,
some not so well done) but overall it was good.  Especially as this is 8th 
grade!

Charlotte actually got a little interested in 'orchestra' a bit but she had a
bad experience with it in Sasebo.  Teacher couldnt get anyone who wanted 
'trombone' so convinced her that was what she should play (despite the
regulations in the tower we lived in that did not allow practice with that type
instrument which he knew).  When we objected the following week, he said 'it's 
too late to change her this year' so we let her try but removed her when she
was plainly miserable and failing.  She's now making A's in chorus and has
evidently learned to sight read music in her first month (or rather, is far
better at it than the others and the teacher said they had a 6 week jump on her
so she's doing really well).  Like me, her voice is hard to classify, being a
between set like me.  I forget if the name is 'bassalto' or 'contralto'.  It's
a person who can carry upper range of bass and lower range of tenor/alto but
cant hit lower bass or upper alto.

Grin, way back when I was in chorus class, the teacher had me seeging back and
forth between bass line and alto line and stuck me in the line right between
both.  I do not have a good solo voice and few songs hit my range but i did
have
fun!
