  I believe that you are talking about the index list of messages, where
  about 20 messages are listed by FROM, Subject etc.  One line for each.
  When you click on one of the lines, you get taken to another screen
  where you can read that message.  When you go back to the index, that
  line has changed color.   Are we together so far?

  However, if you read a message, and then hit the next button to read
  another message without going back to the index, then the line for the
  second message in the index does not change color.  So if you read a
  bunch of messages using the next button, only the first of them will
  have changed color in the index.

  But, if you hit the back key after reading the first message and then
  hit the line for that second message it should change color when you
  get back to the index  (and the color for the first message should
  also stay changed to indicate that you have read it).

  If that does not clear it up for you -- then perhaps you have
  inadvertently modified the web browser properties.   The changing
  color is not a function of DOCs.  It is a windows thing.  If you are
  using MSIE, click on "tools" in the menu line, then click on "internet
  options" in the pull down menu.   Look for "color" and see if you are
  still set up for default.

  If any of this is no help, come back to me in email and we'll try to
  work it out.

      Title: OLD BAY TURKEY CAKES
 Categories: Poultry
      Yield: 4 servings
 
      1    Egg; lightly beaten
      2 ts Pepper, black
    1/2 c  Bread crumbs, italian
      1 lb Turkey; cooked, minced
      2 tb Mayonnaise
      2 ts Old Bay seasoning
      2    Scallions; finely chopped
      3 tb Butter
 
  In a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients except turkey and butter.
  After ingredients are thoroughly combined, gently stir in turkey. Form
  into 4 or 5 turkey cakes. Saute in butter until lightly browned on
  both sides.
