CS> I'm starting to feel 'old ladyish' with my shoes but I was very
CS> careful today being my first time in 'heels' (military pumps, not very
CS> high). I can tell my lower back is quite fragile and a fall could be
CS> a real problem. It has now permanent seeming low grade lower back
CS> pain and quite frequent upper neck issues and stiffness.

RH> No fun. I found that I can wear heels (and you probably saw my
RH> description of how much of a heel I do wear) for a little bit but not
RH> all day. I don't have the back issues but both of my feet have had
RH> broken bones, plus a knee I bummed up when I was 18 limit my time in
 RH> heels.

I am almost never in heels now. Those pumps arent bad, but a little higher
than I desire now. I have to find me some bates lites with the 1 inch heel.

CS> I have appointments now to start the specialist series the ESSEX wasnt
CS> able to setup before I left. Tuesday, I get the PRT review (will
CS> fail, told them so and it's a formality to list me officially for now)
CS> then the Doctor who can look me over and setup the followups.

RH> Hopefully all goes well. Tuesday I've got the follow up mammogram and
RH> a meeting with the surgeon afterward to set in motion plans for the
RH> (hopefully) final bit of work that needs doing. I would like to have

Looks like we both gotta post Tuesday on what we find eh? In my case, sure to
be a referral.

RH> it all over in early Decamber so I can start radiation after we get
RH> back form our leave at the end of the month. I've been cooking in bulk
RH> to get the freezer stocked before we go away; Monday I will make chili
RH> and (probably) Wed. do some enchiladas. Then there's just 4 more
RH> things on my cook and stock up list to do before surgery; it will give
RH> us a choice of about 6 different sets of meals that will be basically
RH> heat and eat. By the time we work thru all of them (they're in 3-4 meal
RH> quantities) plus the occaisional cook from scratch, eating out, etc, I
RH> should be feeling more like cooking again--and restocking the freezer.

Ok, best of our wishes to you there. Might want to split the rest to 2 meal
amounts so you dont have to have the same thing as many times in a row.

Hey, I have heard there is a medical pill form of THC for chemo folks to help
with the drop in appetite? It does NOT get you high, just helps the appetite
and totally legal by prescription. Keep it in mind if that becomes a problem
ok?

CS> After today, I think I will just be unstylish and wear the flats with
 CS> my skirt.

RH> I don't like totally flat shoes with skirts, just a bit of a heel.
RH> But, I may reach the point where I'll have to wear them or walking
RH> shoes only. When I reach that point, I will. But now, spending a bit
RH> more money than I used to (getting top quality vs Payless or Wal-Mart
RH> shoes), I can still wear a small heel.

Same view here on heels vs flats but my minimal wedge types (1 inch max) still
work for payless.

I'm in a slight pickle now. My very high arches make heels (1-1.5 inch) more
comfortable for the feet but can cause the back to object if walking too far.
Those little arch support thingies have never really helped me.

Except for one exceptionally well fitting pair, i generally do not like the
look of wedge heels nor the look of 'stiletos', preferring the look of the
larger fatter but definate heel. Classic looking pumps are my style.

Grin, got that one wedge heel not too long ago. I was walking with Charlotte
to the base and it rained a little and the shoes I had on made horrible
blisters
once wet. I had a choice of a cab back right away, or getting something and
letting Charlotte enjoy the planned shopping trip. I hobbled to the exchange
with her and found a strappy looking black wedge with no back and for the rare
time, one that my foot fit perfectly. Usually my heel is to the innerside of
sandals so I am partway off them at the back. These do not do that.

Cork wedge, somewhat wide but not unstylishly so and enough 'strap' to be
almost
covered. Due to years of wearing steel boots on a ship, I got the toenail
yucks
that make'em not look so hot <g>. These minimize how much you can see of them
without (IMHO) being obvious. About 2 inch rise at back and 1/2 or so at
front.
Equal in effect to a 1.5 inch heel.

They were on a major markdown too. I forget now how much, but less than 10$.\

Oh, my shoes are now officially safe from Charlotte. She's a size 8 <g>. I
range depending on the fit from 6 to 7.5 but usually a 7 for pumps, 6.5 for
sneaks, and the above sandals were a 6. I found sizing in Asia was much more
accurate and if i recall right, I'm pretty much a 170.

Part of my foot problem is a childhood injury so that foot is wider at the
'knuckles' due to joint injury of the big toe and growth made that one twist
a little more than the other though it's not apparent to the eye, just the fit
of shoes. Happened when I was 5 so feets were still growing. Probably some
of the slightly twisted foot is related to wearing so many casts over the
following 3 years.

I can relate to the special shoe fittings though. Thomm Mccans rings a major
bell as the only place that could fit me as a kid. They carry orthopedic kids
shoes and back in the 60's, you could even get 1 shoe in one size, then the
other in another with minimal price difference. Get this, if one foot changed
and the other didnt, you could buy just one shoe <g>. As surgical swellings
changed, Mom would have to do that.
              xxcarol
