====================================================================
Ahoy Ruth!
->
-> -> HN> at school and I don't have to be home to fix
-> ->  HN> an early dinner!
->
-> -> True. We're eating a bit earlier than usual tonight by choice. We
want
-> -> to visit a friend of ours but can only do so until 8 pm.
->
-> HN> Our schedule is pretty "open" but we usually eat
-> HN> around 6pm every day. The morning is much more
-> HN> regimented with getting ready for work, breakfast and all.
->
-> We try for dinner around then too; sometimes it's a few minutes over.
-> Breakfast time, Steve fends for himself as he has to eat & get out the
-> door early. Lunch varies but usually he comes home and either raids
-> the fridge or I've got something ready or other options are used. Of
-> course week ends throws everything into a different game plan. (G)
->
->
I get up before Anne does, and get her
breakfast ready while she showers, then
I get her lunch ready while she's eating
her breakfast....When she heads out to
school, I can go back to bed if I want
(maybe once every three months I'll do
just that too!). But usually I clean up
and plan dinner and get on with my daily
errands and try to fit time in to go down
to my workspace and paint a bit or get
out and do some photography.

-> -> HN> Let's just say when I got out of the navy
-> -> HN> I was more used to eating steak and lobster
-> ->  HN> than I have been since!
->
-> -> Sure not like that in the Army. (G)
->
-> HN> Precisely! That's why I joined the Navy! (grin)
->
-> The Navy didn't even give Steve the time of day when he inquired with
-> them. Of course he was pushing 30 and had a wife & 2 kids then.
-> Overall, the Army has been a good choice tho the food is not as gourmet
-> as the Navy.
->

When I joined was during the years when there
was a draft...and there were people lining up
trying to get into the navy ....mostly to avoid
going into the army!

->
-> -> -> Before or after Robert Irvine's tenure there? (G)
->
-> -> HN> Dunno who he is, but our chief was there in the mid
-> ->  HN> 60's.
->
-> -> He's the "Dinner Impossible" guy; was teamed up with Tyler Florence
-> -> against Cat Cora and Paula Deen last night on "Iron Chef". The guys
-> -> lost, but by only 2 points; I was expecting a larger margin between,
but
-> -> still expected the guys to lose.
->
-> HN> (grin) Then it'd be LONG before Robert Irvine!
->
-> I don't know that much about him (age, years cooking where, etc) to say
-> one way or another. He did do the wedding cake for Diana and Charles so
-> he's been around a while. He can be a bit tyrannical in the kitchen (but
-> not like Gordon Ramsey from what I read) but you also see his human side
-> in his show--as when he forgets the word "tomatoes" in describing what
-> one sous chef is cutting up.
->

Our chief was an E-8 in 1969 so he'd
been in the navy for a goodly while already!

->
-> -> HN> the admirals kept trying to woo
-> -> HN> him away from us for shore duty..
-> -> HN> but he LIKED cooking for a crew and
-> -> HN> had had enough of the high life at
-> ->  HN> the white house....so he stayed
-> ->  HN> with us...and we were GLAD!!
->
-> -> Sounds like he was a keeper. (G)
->
-> HN> He was, but he was a tough taskmaster as well, he's cooks
-> HN> knew to jump when he started yelling orders!
-> HN> But every one of them that worked under him became
-> HN> really good navy cooks themselves!
->
-> Easy enough to see why. They would do well in the civilian world too.
->
->
And in fact all that survived his training did do well!
chat with you soon
