Hey Ruth!

Did I ever tell you I know 6 other Ruth's besides you and CT Ruth?
I even have and Aunt who's name is Ruth! (my grandfather was a
methodist minister) Almost gave that as a middle name to Amanda. (but we
went with JOY instead)

->
-> -> Yes but they can't live in military housing since they are not in nor
-> -> civilian connected (overseas). Military housing does lack the
-> -> demographic diversification of housing off post; most military families
->  HN> ->
->
-> HN> Yep, military housing has some benefits,
-> HN> and some drawbacks! One of the big benefits
-> HN> is support through common experience. Everyone
-> HN> is bound by the same circumstances to a great
->
-> Very much so. Tha's often why, when troops are deployed, the spouses at
-> home (and especially in the same housing area) bond even tighter. Plus,
-> as Carol found out, it means rides to the commissary for non drivers and
-> other trade offs. We never had a flock like Charlotte did but had
-> enough of our girls friends popping in and out over the years,
-> especially when we were in Germany.
->
Same as when we were in France.

->
-> HN> degree. When I was a kid in South Carolina, we
-> HN> lived right outside one of the housing areas
-> HN> and were in and out of it as much as if we
-> HN> lived there. Grin, there were so many holes in
-> HN> the fence surrounding base housing we kids
-> HN> never even considered "inside" and "outside"!
->
-> Kids usually don't pay attention to differences like that. OTOH, a
-> military kid going to school in a non military area can stand out like
-> an LED light. (G) The other kids are usually a pretty tight knit group
-> and the military kid may have problems fitting in.
->

Have had that experience as both a kid and adult.
It's nice at those times to have a good self image and
be somewhat independent.

-> Even adults won't always "fit" in a civilian environment. After being a
-> member of churches that had strong military populations over the last 15
-> years, Steve and I are now one of 2 military families in our church.
-> We've been well accepted but sometimes have to explain what brought us
-> to the area, how long we'll be here, etc. And, I've known a number of
-> civilians (over the years) that are hesitant to make friends with
-> military families, knowing that the military ones will be transferred.
-> We do have a lot of non military friends in the places we've been
-> previously stationed at.
->
-> ->  hn> Grin, I am a morning person...Anne and Amanda
-> -> hn> don't seem to share my joy at hopping out of
-> -> hn> bed and running around the house...but you
->
-> -> You wouldn't have them any other way. (G)
->
-> HN> Well, I'd *like* it if they were more
-> HN> enthusiastic and energetic in the
-> HN> am! It would make getting out of the
-> HN> house on excursions much more speedy!
->
-> But it may be a way of keeping you out of trouble if you were in a
-> certain spot at an earlier time. I could give you several "for
-> instances" where my life has been save because of that.
->

It would be nice to have someone
to talk to in the mornings though (grin)

-> -> hn> She's ready for the break now (grin) she did NOT
-> -> hn> wanna get out of bed this morning!
->
-> -> Weather too nasty or just the grind getting to her? She should still be
-> -> taking it easy; probably should have taught half days for a week or so
-> -> after her hospitalisation.
->
->  HN> Spending a day in a class with 26 2nd graders who are
-> HN> wound up for Christmas would make anyone tired!
-> HN> The closer to the holidays the more zany and
-> HN> wired up the kids get (I remember being the
->
-> That's the trouble with Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas so close.
-> The kids are on a sugar high from the end of October pretty much thru
-> the end of the year. Rachel doesn't have as many kids in her 2nd grade
-> class (advantage of a private school) but she says they're all wired
-> also.
->
Perpetual state for kids this time of year! (grin)

->
-> HN> same way!) and the harder it is to get
-> HN> them to concentrate on the academic work they
-> HN> need to be doing!
->
-> Very much so! Especially if there are state or federal tests that have
-> to be taken to meet certain standards. Enough class time is spent
-> teaching to the test now that kids don't get some of the extra
-> activities we had to burn off some of the energy. We had a recess
-> (outside, weather permitting) and a "special" class--art, music, or
-> other--every day besides academics.
->

Anne's on break now, and is enjoying it immensely!
She's gonna sleep in for a few days!

-> -> hn> Looking for more options along that line.
->
-> -> Go to a local natural foods store and see what sort of options they
-> -> have. We tried one called Ezekiel 4:9 (or some other numbers, can't
-> -> remember just what) but were less than impressed by it. The spaghetti
->
-> HN> We've tried the bread and it's ok, we
-> HN> have a very good couple of natural food
-> HN> stores with LOTS of options, just taking
-> HN> time to study them and make decisions.
->
-> The advantage of living in a large population area. Been back to the
-> Hawaiian place recently?
->

Went there yesterday, it's just upstairs from my
studio/workspace so it's nice and convenient!
had Saimin and huli huli chicken! it was ONO!

chat with you soon
