  They tended to get done every other day for us, cooking only for two.
  And they actually get considerably cleaner than they would if I did
  them by hand -- between the jet hot water rinses and air drying.

  Only for the light bulb:-}}  Our hot water is gas.   According to the
  sticker on the dishwasher, it uses 452 kWh per year in "normal" use,
  based on five loads per week.  Sticker also says cost is $24 per year
  based on 0.0828 per kWh for electricity and 0.656 per therm for
  natural gas (those apparently were 2002 prices).  I would not be
  surprised to see the cost per unit double today though.

  Useful, not indispensable.  And I am quite happy with our faberware
  can opener -- not that we use one all that often lately.   Not many
  canned foods, and some of the ones that are have pull top lids.

  I am reminded of a gripe with respect to canned foods and can openers
  though.   Cranberry sauce -- it has changed from a can that you can
  open at both ends to one that is rounded on one end.  We used to open
  both ends and push out a nice rounded lump of jellied cranberry sauce.
  Now we have to dig it out of the can and hope that we don't mash it up
  in the process!


MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05
 
      Title: Smoked Tasso
 Categories: Meat, Sausage
      Yield: 1 servings
 
      4 lb Pork butt
    1/2 c  Worcestershire sauce
      1 tb Tabasco sauce
    1/4 c  Brown sugar
    1/4 c  Cayenne
    1/4 c  Cracked black pepper
    1/4 c  Salt
    1/2    Garlic, granulated
 
  Cut pork into 1/2" thick strips.  Place on a baking pan and season
  with Worcestershire and Tabasco.  Once liquids are well blended into
  meat, add all remaining ingredients.  Mix well into meat to ensure
  that each piece is well coated with the seasoning mixture.  Cover
  with clear wrap and refrigerate overnight.  Using a home style smoker,
  smoke Tasso at 175 to 200 degrees for 2-1/2 hours.  Once cooked Tasso
  may be frozen or used to season gumbos, vegetables, or a great pot of
  red or white beans.
