It is more common for people here to grow the stuff - usually hydroponically. 
You will notice I deliberately put in a hyphen between pot and plant.  :)

As I use 8 or 9, it seemed big to me.

But the laundry pen marks would hardly be acceptable to an active 12 yo;
someone might see them!  It would be better if mother and daughter wore
different brands to distinguish whose is whose; that is what I and my sons do.
