Humm!  I'll have to check out the local KFC and see if we have it here.  Yes,
we have a KFC in the ginza.  Oddly, I dont think I've ever eaten there but
like the local ginza Mcdonalds, there may be some taste treats awaiting! 
Mostly though we've taken to the various local food types and Charlotte and I
are trying a different one most trips.  We picked out one just last time to
try this next trip.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05
 
      Title: Clear Soup with Okra
 Categories: Japan, Asian, Soups
      Yield: 4 Servings
 
     90 g  Okra pods
      6 c  Dashi
      1    Ginger- green, 2.5cm
           ;peeled and sliced
      2 ts Sauce- light soy
 
  Scrub okra pods to remove the fuzz. Wash well under running water.
  Bring a pan of salted water to the boil. Drop the okra into this and
  cook for 5 minutes or until tender but still crisp. Drain and cut
  into bite-sized pieces.
  
  Place the dashi in a saucepan and bring to the boil over medium heat.
  Add the okra, sliced ginger and soy sauce. Simmer for 1 minute. Pour
  into serving bowls and serve immediately.

      1 tb Sake
      1 pn Salt
      3 ts Sauce- light soy
      1 ts Sugar
    1/2 sm Cucumber
           ;peeled and sliced
           ;paper thin
 
  Place the dashi in a saucepan and bring to the boil over a medium
  heat. Add the sake, soy sauce and sugar. Stir thoroughly and simmer
  gently for 1 minute.
  
  Place slices of cucumber into warmed soup bowls and pour soup over.
  Serve immediately.

So begins a traditonal dinner here.  One of the clear soups would be served in
small amounts, 1/3 cup or so per diner.  Out in town, this one is the
'supersize' item so you might get a whole cup.  Millions of variations but the
essense is a clear broth with delicate mild flavor and just a touch of
something else added.  I think it's meant to keep you busy while Mom sets the
rest of the table items out.
