Ärende: kids and fast food
==========================
Hi Carol,

RH> their parents take them to because it's cheap & nobody cares how much
RH> noise there is & running around is done by kids hyped up from the star
RH> converted to sugar.

CS> Probably true in some places. Afterall, I will take Charlotte tot he
CS> 'Origional Sasebo Burger' joint plenty often. It also happens to be

Just like our girls got the McDs or whatever (BK in Germany) more than
they really should have. BK has a contract with AAFES so we have it
over here & had it on post in AZ as well as having it in Germany. The
NEX has quite an assortment of eateries; I hope the new PX here will
have at least half the NEX number and quality (not that we'll be here to
see the new food court area).

CS> the nearest food place to where we live. Funny thing is the french
CS> fries arent really popular there. Folks get other things, even the
 CS> kids.

Here we can get a salad as an alternative to fries or onion rings at the
BK on post. That's what Steve & I usually opt for.

JW> young kids. (Alex will eat anything, anywhere with great gusto.)

RH> Pack mentality there for Neekha enjoying McD's with her peers. Alex i
RH> at the age where food is fun, the messier the better. (G)

CS> As true here as there, but with a twist. Noodle houses are the
CS> popular thing for the kids. Matched with 'the wierdest side dish'
CS> they can find (imagine indulgent mama-san at side who finding 'wierd
CS> is good' makes normal stuff look really wierd just for them strange
CS> USA kids). Saw one with small fishes wearing bow ties made of green
CS> veggie (seaweed probably). Saw another that was a green bell pepper
CS> with it's top cut off, soba noodles inside, and a little face
CS> scrunched up in horror (face made of various food things, 'eat my
CS> brains' is what the kids call that one).

That must be fun--reading the descriptions & then seeing how they are
executed (pardon the bad joke). I've not seen that in the noodle places
over here.

CS> It's not so strange to see a land where 'eye appeal' is a good bit of
CS> the preparation of foods anyways, to have fun making them
CS> kid-friendly. A pretty easy leap in fact. Elise and i get dragged out
CS> now and again to chaparone a flock who want to hit up one of these
CS> 'noodle places' so we see it often enough and get ideas from it. They
CS> are often gory in a funny way like 'man killed by mushroom' (little
CS> piece of sashimi cut manshape, pierced by a mushroom with a dribble of
CS> red-sauce leading down his leg from that spot). You get the idea!

CS> The kids get the gory and the adults get cute ones mostly <g>.

I presume the kids have as much fun eating them as they do ordering
them. Reminds me of the time when we were at Fort Hood & had gotten
some gummi worms in the PX. We let the girls dig into the bag on the
way home--big mistake. Deborah was about 5 at the time; she put on a
falsetto "worm voice" and come up with "Oooh, she bit off my head!" and
"Now she's going for my tail, OH NOOOOOOOOOOO!" as she ate hers--as
Steve was trying to keep from laughing so hard he couldn't drive.

Catch you later,
