We've often said that the military (and certain fields in it) will
either strengthen a good marriage or break one that was faltering.  It
is true, that the soldier (sailor, etc) is only as good as the family
in back of him or her in a lot of respects, OTOH, there are some that
rise above less than ideal family conditions and better themselves.

Was the diabetes a factor in deciding to get out?  After Steve hit 10
years, he realised that staying for 20 would give us more in the long
run than getting out beforehand would.  His post military goal is to go
back into the active ministry; by staying in the military long enough
for a retirement check, we could feel comfortable going to a small
church.  The church would not have to pay medical benefits for either of
us and could afford to pay for a full time pastor on what could be
considered a part timers salary.

Were you at Fort Hood or Bliss?  We were at Goodfellow AFB (San Angelo)
for a few months, then moved to Fort Hood.  Our younger daughter spent
several months "training up" at Bliss before deploying 3 years ago--long
enough that she and others in her unit were extras in the movie "The Day
After Tomorrow" (yes, I'm prerry sure I spotted her) while it was filmed
nearby.  We spent some time at Bliss for medical appointments while we
were stationed at Fort Huachuca but overall, fell in love with
aoutheastern AZ as opposed to TX.  Too many allegins in TX for me.
