Ärende: Duplicate messages
==========================
(WARNING: Nerdly technical message. If you're not the intended recipient, you
may just want to skip down to the recipe at the end! :)

Hello, Dale.

17 Jul 06 00:37, you wrote to me:

What I'm wondering is why my system didn't catch them. As you already know
(but for the benefit of everyone else reading), I've got a dual duplication
detection system here, using both headers and MSGIDs, and somehow the darn
messages slipped past my system. I have a program in my Maximus section (I own
Gary Gilmore's "Maximus Home Page" site) that sorts incoming packets before
Squish tosses them in. I'll have to check out everything and see if I can find
something that burps out the messages better than Squish.

DS> The 120 that got through to you and to me were messages that did

DS> the BBS that sent out the duplicate messages does do a type of
DS> duplicate checking based on MSGID. He caught and killed 317 of them
DS> in the COOKING echo, according to a STATS echo message posted
 DS> automatically by his system.

Do we know who the offending system is? Might need to contact him and see
what's going on. I know for a fact ProBoard doesn't put MSGIDs in its
messages, but I so rarely have a problem with dupes getting tossed out that I
don't bother checking a lot. Perhaps I need to install a stats program that
will post me a netmail message nightly so I can check on things when I drag
myself to the computer first thing in the morning. :)
