Ärende: some news
=================
Hi Carol,

RH> Fun when you have a doctor who's easy to work with. I have to say "go
RH> bye" in a couple of weeks to my pulminologist; when I first started
RH> working with him 5 years ago, he said that he might do some things I

CS> Yeah, bummer to lose a good one once you find one.

Yes, I'm glad he kept extending over here so I could keep up the
continuity of care.

CS> Oh, lab rate tests back <g>. Yup, low grade calcium deficit here.
CS> Fixable as it's been caught early.

OK, gives you a chance to become Cheese Monkey #2 on here. (G)

CS> shift in Japan other than off red meats mostly, is cheese went way

RH> We haven't changed much in our cheese eating habits (high) but have
RH> switched from mostly cow's milk to mostly soy for drinking and on
RH> cereal. We've also picked up on our yogurt consumption, especially
RH> Steve, in the last couple of years. Also, we've eliminated just about
RH> all pork (me rather reluctantly) and most red meat from our diet and
RH> added more fresh fish.

CS> I get to have my cheese fix again <g>. 1 cup of cottage a week plus
CS> at least 2 oz of 'other' a week. I'm not a big yogurt fan but skim
CS> ricotta will go back on the shopping list along with FF sourcream.

Was it something you gave up intentionally or just sort of slipped away
from eating? I upped my yogurt eating when I knew I needed to get more
calcium but didn't want the extra pills. (I already do use a couple a
day.) Over here we've become bigger ice cream eaters too but too much
of that isn't good for either of us.

CS> I'm not absorbing it right. He also looked over Charlotte and advised
CS> we keep giving her a healthy cup of milk with dinner as well as keep
CS> up the habit of a bottle of floridated water a day (something he's

RH> Sounds like he's got his act togethr quite well. He appears to be
RH> incorporating the best of traditional and modern medical practice; I
RH> know you'll miss him when you move back to the states next year.

CS> Yup. It's Japanese style to do it that way. I wont say all their
CS> medical practices are great, but the eating for health part is very
CS> common here with long time traditions.

It sounds like a lot of "western" medical schools could take a lesson
from their Asian counterparts. Eating for health isn't exactly a major
part of their curriculum.

RH> worse, depending on how much weight bearing exercise I've been able to
RH> do, eating habits, use of various meds, etc. I'm tryng to keep from
RH> slipping into full blown osteoporosis; OTOH, I know my boes will never
RH> be in the "normal" range. Good thing I like soy milk, cheese, ice cre
RH> (G), yogurt, etc and will push the greens more.

CS> He hasnt mentioned exercise to me, but i think I probably get enough
CS> for that to not be an issue.

I think he probably knows you get more than the average amount. I need
to get more han I do, OTOH, I'm not as much a "chair (vs couch) potato"
as my mom. One good thing about this townhouse--I'm up & down the
stairs umpteen dozen or more times a day. (G)
