CS> Scratching my head, but Charlotte hasnt eaten at home today yet. Ok,
CS> just asked. She ate at Jason's (eggs and rice porridge), David's
CS> (fruit), Marueen's (hashbrowns and fried tomatoes), and Sunjo's (rice
CS> with fish-cake). Had pickles (dill cucumber type and daikon) someplace
CS> but cant remember which one.
CS> Someplace some other parent is addin to their list: Carol's - pancit
 CS> and meatloaf...
GJ>
GJ> Haha! That flock must be one of the best nourished groups of kids,
GJ> anywhere! In most other places the group would be eating cakes, fried
GJ> potatoes, and other proprietry high salt, high sugar manufactured
GJ> snack foods, washed down with widely advertised sugary soft drinks.

CS> Blurg! Yes, fortunately the parents here dont do much of that. Might
CS> add, we dont have any 'fat kids', only the rare new kid to the area and
CS> they seem to drop the weight here suitably.

GJ> I would think peer pressure would have an influence on eating and
GJ> exercise habits. With the flock used to walking everywhere instead of
GJ> being driven, and eating home-cooked snacks provided by caring parents
GJ> who think it is "proper" to do that rather than buy stuff, a culture
GJ> would have developed that new kids would naturally want to fit into.

Yes. (sorry for long quote but I'm catching backlog and figured you'd need the
rest to place the conversation!). Most of our stuff we make for the flock is
pretty simple, but it's generally good for you stuff. Not cakes and cookies.
More exercise as part of the lifestyle also.

Most kids here are used to grabbing the backpack and going food shoppjng with
the parents and helping carry it home. Charlotte, Don, and I are not 'unique'
at all here. New folks (from the USA) in the first weeks think it strange or
even 'a bad thing to make kids do' until they adjust to the area and find out
it's recreational stuff here. It is afterall, a small town <g>. We have a
base movie theater, and one out in town that has 2 movies (one of the 2 will
be either subtitled in english, or english dubbed).

CS> I guess our specs on 'fat kids' arent the norm for stateside? Really
CS> and truely, there arent many at all.

GJ> "Someone" is going to get a shock when she returns to the homeland!

She did already last year when the MIL (Grandma) died. People there will use a
taxi to go the mere 1 mile from the Navy Lodge (think hotel and you have it)
to the McDonalds or food court (we had limited cooking facilities).

CS> The diet isnt perfect though. It's high starch and salt. Seems to
CS> burn off fast though. And sometimes, they do get cake and cookies <G>.
CS> The difference is it would only be at one of the 5-6 places they
CS> wander, rather than all of them.

GJ> No harm in that. The important thing is the balance.

Yes. It's balanced here. The largest group would be 'noodles' and 'rice' but
that's closely followed by veggies and then fruits. Meats tend to be in
'condiment levels'.

Did you know if you drop your red meat consumption down to about 1/2 cup a
week, you get to needing prunes to deal with the occasional steak? Snicker,
it's true!
