========================================================================
Hi shortimer!
->
-> -> Typical of a military kid. (G) To be honest, I not interested in what's
-> -> become of most of my classmates anyhow. A few, yes, but not even a
-> -> tenth, I'd say.  That would be 6.3 people. (G)
->  hn> ->
-> hn> Same here, I still live in the town where I graduated high school and
-> hn> I only see about 3 of my old classmates on any sort of regular basis.
-> hn> I see more of my old college friends, or even my Navy shipmates (at
-> hn> least I correspond with them regularly) than my high school
->  hn> classmates.
->
-> I'd say we keep in touch with mostly people we've met thru the military,
-> most now retired military but a fair number of civilians as well. We do
-> keep in touch with a couple of my college friends, mostly at Christmas
-> tho. They live about an hour from my parents.
->
Our Christmas card list is about 160 cards..those are friends that matter
enough to us that we keep in contact with them.
In fact just got some bad news a bit ago; one of my old girlfriends who ended
up marrying my roomate just passed away after a long battle with bone
cancer. It was/is a real blow, they were great friends even though we live on
opposite sides of the country.

-> -> hn> We still talk with Amanda often, and happily she enjoys our
company
-> -> hn> almost as much as we enjoy hers (grin). When she went off to
->  hn> college
->  hn> ->
-> -> It's safe to say the same about our two.
->  hn> ->
-> hn> Yup we're lucky to have better kids than we were (grin)! At least
->  hn> that's the case for me!!
->
-> Same here. I was talking with the new battalion commander's wife last
-> night and realised Robert is now a month younger than Deborah was when
-> Steve went into the Army. That kid is growing up too fast!
->
Time does not slow down for any of us!

-> -> hn> and me and maybe just a tiny bit less on Anne who turned out to
be
->  hn> the
-> -> hn> "strongest" of the three of us.
->  hn> ->
-> -> I remember. (G) Be glad you had the phone and internet.
->  hn> ->
->  hn> Amen and AMEN!!
->
-> Deborah has the same cell phone provider we do so calls are free back
-> and forth with her. Rachel and David have a different provider but
-> we've all got enough minutes we can chat often. Steve is also using
-> Skype at home to talk to her.
->
Amanda has the same provider as Anne and I do, so we chat often.
->
-> -> -> Our girls took it as a matter of course, since before Steve went in
the
-> -> -> Army, we lived in NC and all the rest of the family lived in NY. It
was
->
-> -> hn> We took it as a matter of course as well...not like we had any say
in
-> -> hn> the matter anyway. It was the way it was....but in retrospect I
felt
-> -> hn> that it was not fair and thusly I didn't do it to my child...didn't
->
-> -> Our economic situation changed for the better when Steve went into
the
-> -> Army. Don't know what it would have done or where we would have
-> -> very good for them in others--they were in on history, first hand as we
-> -> were stationed in Berlin when the wall came down. The broader world
-> -> view they have now is a positive result of their being raised in the
->
-> hn> Oh my life was not one of pure unending misery, I certainly did what I
-> hn> could to make the best of the situation and all in all I think I came
->  hn> out pretty well.
->
-> It sounds like you did fairly well from what I've read previously. Just
-> think, you were eating criossants and drinking evian water before they
-> became "the" thing to do. (G)
->
Yup!
->
-> hn> But when I look at some of the things I missed out on I realize why
my
-> hn> views are the way they are today. Some of my experiences I would
not
-> hn> trade for anything...seeing the Notre Dame Cathedral at dawn for the
-> hn> first time is awe inspiring, the pyrimids at dawn are breathtaking.
-> hn> Canoeing down the Danube for a week was an adventure of a
-> hn> lifetime...as was the first time I saw the Follies Bergere! But I
->
-> And how many times have you been to Europe since?
->
None! LOL

-> hn> certainly missed the stability of having extended family nearby during
->  hn> those formative years.
->
-> That's where we had it good in that Steve didn't go in until the girls
-> were a bit older. They knew extended family, even if we didn't see them
-> but maybe once a year.
->
Oh I knew my cousins and such, my dad got out of the airforce for a bit after
WWII and went back in for Korea. So I lived in the small town where they
grew up for a time as well. And I loved being around all my cousins.

-> -> hn> lost in and beat up in. New bullies, new customs, and rules. Sure
->
-> -> Our girls actually adapted quite well to the changes. The one that may
->
-> hn> There are always bullies (either physical or emotional) to be dealt
->  hn> with in life
->
-> Or as I say, the cockroaches in paradise. (G)
->
Great big ones sometimes!
chat with you soon
