Ärende: Re: Hello
=================
Hi Carol!
->
-> -> ->
-> -> -> Oh my! Now how to resurrect my honor?
-> -> ->
-> -> -> Naw, cant. I enjoyed my night 'kid-free' muchly Sir. More the lad
-> -> -> not.
-> -> ->
-> -> hn> Oh so wise ! (G)
-> ->
-> -> Snicker.
-> ->
-> hn> It's fun to be a grown up sometimes isn't it ?(grin)
->
-> It has it's moments!

Indeed it do! Can make me smile for days too! (G)
->
-> -> Very true! Cant say as i've ever made a Bos'un blush but I did learn to
-> -> control my lingo in OZ bars. Seems some of my favorite expletives can
-> hn> bring
-> -> them to an eye-popping 'halt' although I didnt think what i said was so
-> hn> bad!
-> -> Just a cultural difference <g>.  Umm, without getting specific it's
-> hn> apparently
-> -> frowned on there to discuss Jesus's ancestry... (oops).
-> ->
-> hn> Yup, those Ozzies are a strange lot indeed! I had a Quantas
stewardess
-> hn> girlfriend for a bit when I lived in Hawaii....she'd call whenever her
-> hn> came into Honolulu. It took SOME getting used to when she'd say I'll b
-> hn> hotel XXXX could you please Knock me up around 6 am?? When she'd
say i
-> hn> front of my friends...imagine the looks I got then!!LOL

It was pretty funny at the time, once I told her what it meant in 'merican
slang she thought it was even funnier and continued to use it in front of
people she thought she could shock! LOL
->
-> I can imagine! Ask a Brit type to shag. Just try it. You'll figure out
fast
-> they have another meanting for the term than a dance that is almost like
a
-> squaredance on the public dance floor.

Hmmm, much different dance (grin) I'll bet they laugh their butts off at the
Shaggy dog movies from disney!

->
-> -> only when spontaneously espostulating displeasure.
-> ->
-> -> I also almost never yell at people, having other methods, but if yo
-> -> really mad, I have been known to be heard 2 decks away through steel
-> hn> bulkheads.
-> ->
-> hn> We had a chief who was the quietest most gentle man you'd ever
expect
-> hn> see in Khaki....until you got him mad...he could raise a blister on ar
-> hn> steel at 20 feet! AND you knew if you got him to that point you were t
-> hn> and he was going to have you for breakfast!
->
-> Thats me. Right now, I am a bit on edge (see other posts) and just ripped
up a
->
-> fellow Chief. Did it in the CPO mess. He told his guys to ask me what
schools
-> they were scheduked for instead of checking for himself with the files I
sent
-> him over the past 2 weeks, telling him (and the other 1,200 people on my
ship)
-> to check and warn their folks. GRRR. I guess it was toomuch 'trouble' for
him
->
-> to check his own people and easier for him to tel them to ask me? Like I
need
-> 1,200 people asking me to .... ok, ease up xx.
->
I saw the post, It sure wasn't that way in my day, we never had to worry
about funding, and we'd just work out the logistics and off we'd go. Heck, I
sent myself to the army's jungle survival school in Panama ....not much
chance of a submarine coming to rest in a jungle ....but hey it was a school
and I thought it would be fun (it was too) so I went! The way the "New
Navy" is funded really is stupid. (pardon my french!)

-> Grin, I'm normally pretty calm type. JUst pity the poor soul who crosses
my
-> lines in any sysop echo tonight. Might not be pretty.
->
->
-> -> Had one recently when a BM2 'ticked me off' at just the wrong time
and i
-> hn> let
-> -> loose on him right there at the quarterdeck. Should'a seen everyone
jump
-> hn> 2
-> -> feet up and 3 back to get away just at the expression on my face
before i
-> hn> even
-> -> let loose as i rounded on him. BMCS (Senior Chief Bos'un) came up
from
-> hn> the
-> -> well deck 200 feet away and 1 deck down to see what happened only
to
-> hn> find it
-> -> was one of his guys, then he took over. See, he knows *me* and
-> hn> anything to set
-> ->
-> -> me off like that, had him shocked silly. I'm widely known as rather mild

-> hn> and
-> -> temperant <g>.
-> ->
-> hn> Best way to be known...makes the outbursts more meaningful!
->
->
-> True. That episode was before the main stress I have now really hit.
-> Basically the young fellow left his even younger ensign's ass unprotected
and
-> indicated it was funny to him to do so. He's now got 1 4hour watch and a
6-8
-> hour shore patrol a day until *I* think he's learned a lesson. His BMCS
thinks
->
-> I'm a softy for once he figured out what the fellow did. His life is 'not
fun'
->
-> just now as things other than dutysection watches are going on.
->
-> Before you think we are terrible, he's been in other things. That young
ensign
->
-> has at best 6 months in the Navy and he's got 6 years. He's tagged as
not good
->
-> support for her but he's the senior enlisted deck guy in her duty section.
->
Even as a second class he should know that you protect your officers and
chiefs, never make em look bad, or make a mistake unless they insist on it.
To not do that is the quickest way turn a good officer into one who does not
trust his(her) troops, and to turn a good chief into one who will ride you like
a
bad pony every day. Now bos'n's arent generally regarded as the intellectual
elite of the navy (grin) but they are supposed to be "deck savvy" and it sure
sounds like the petty officer set the ensign up and left out to dry and there's

no excuse for that behavior at all. He'd be cleaning a lot of heads for a very
long time on my watch (grin).

->
-> hn> Right tool for the right job, works just about every time!
-> hn> The navy needs more chiefs who think like that!
->
-> There's plenty who do! Justthe old style teaching I had (initiation 1995)
-> didnt account for it. But some, with same, took me aside as they had
same and
-> gave me a clue bat of their own ways of dealing with same.
->
->                                        xxcarol
->
Funny thing many of the concession stands at the ballpark are staffed by
volunteers from non profit groups...this week we have a whole flock of cpo
selectees from NAS Whidbey Island working...its' nice to chat "navy" with em!
chat with you soon!
