Ärende: RE: Besebal is berry 147
================================
Ho there Michael!

-> -> Hum. Actually, Moyer hasn't had much of a season, but he's
-> -> still probably an asset. Wish the Sox had made a bid on him.
-> HN> Moyer has pitched for the most part very well this season, but has
had
-> HN> no run support for his efforts...I think he has 8 losses where the M's
-> HN> scored no runs at all for him this season. If the Sox had made a bid
-> HN> for him it would not have happened.
->
-> I've not seen him pitch this season, but I was of the impression
-> that he wasn't super sharp for most of the games, and his E.R.A.
-> was relatively high. This in addition to the W-L.
->
His success depends heavily on "getting the calls" from the umpire. He lives
on the very edges of the plate and forcing batters to go after pretty marginal
pitches. If he's not getting the calls from the ump, the batters catch on
pretty quick and just sit on the pitches until he is forced to come in more to
the center of the strike zone to get the call....and when he's in the middle of

the strike zone an 80 mile and hour fastball is quite hittable! Still all in
all the
losses he's had have been mostly close well pitched games where if he'd had
even a modicum of run support by his teammates could have been victories.

-> HN> Last nights game was poorly played by the M's and the Yanks took
full
-> HN> advantage of our flawed play and gave us a trouncing that was even
-> HN> worse than the 9-2 score indicated.
->
-> Well, the Ms did a good job Thursday, for which we thank you.
->
And even though Schilling pitched a pretty good game lastnight, the sox
fielding gave the M's a pretty good win. While I liked the win, I would much
rather have seen a really well played game like the last Boston/Seattle series
was.

-> -> about it, but someone pointed out that before they had metal
-> -> cooking pots, what did they put on the fire? Just use common
-> -> sense and don't put a cold clay pot on a roaring flame.
-> HN> I'd not be so worried about a fire than I would with an electric
-> HN> element heating the ceramic...I wonder where that sort of primal
fear
->  HN> comes from?
->
-> I dunno. But if you put it on a burner on low and then gradually
-> increase the flame, then even the most primal of fears should be
-> extinguished.
->
I would hope so!

-> -=> Hap Newsom said to Burton Ford <=-
-> HN> Well the correct context is that PayRod repeatedly said "It's NOT
-> HN> about money, I want to play for a winning team." (which at that time
-> HN> the Mariners actually WERE). Then when the offer from the mariners
-> HN> came it would have made him the highest paid ballplayer in
-> HN> history....the texas offer then came in
-> HN> at almost double the mariners offer...and he went to texas
->
-> I always wondered how many dollars it would take me to sell
-> my reputation for. Twenty-four and some beads, perhaps?
-> No, not really.
->
Yeh, me too, I wonder sometimes about it but not much!

-> HN> it's easy for me to say I would turn it down. But I would have. For
-> HN> several reasons; First, If I say it's not about money and then prove
-> HN> that it is all simply about the size of the pile...then I am a liar
-> HN> and a whore...and being a liar would be the worse of those two
->
-> I always maintained that many professions include aspects of
-> prostitution: since when should it be nastier to sell your body
-> (perhaps to someone who has little prospect of getting any any
-> other way) than to sell weapons or your brain (lawyers, etc.)?
->
Sure we sell what we have to offer whether that be fine musical talent or
simple brawn at digging ditches. We all try and get the best deal the market
will bear and some skills are more rewarded than others. Catching and hitting
a ball with a high degree of success seems to be high on the paychart!

-> HN> appellations. Second, my word is my bond, I don't give it lightly and
-> HN> when I do I am obligated to honor it, even if it
-> HN> is to my disadvantage. It has cost me at times, in money, and
-> HN> opportunities, but I'd rather be an honest poor man than a tainted
-> HN> Caesar whose word can't be trusted.
->
-> You and me both, bro. Circumstances do change at times, but
-> they don't change so fast that you can renege just at the drop
-> of a hat. And some of these guys, they go back on their word
-> so often and so fast that they're spinning like a drill bit.
->
I don't have much but I do have my honesty and I protect it as if it were
Ceasar's Wife. I'd be a LOUSY politician!

-> HN> If I caught a homerun hit by PayRod, I'd throw it back on the
-> HN> field...and I would not do that for any other player in baseball right
->  HN> now.
->
-> I'd grant that favor to any of the Bronx Bombers, except
-> possibly for Johnny Damon (I almost typed "Johnny Depp").
->
Do you mean you'd throw all of em back except Damon's or you'd only throw
Damon's back?
chat with you soon
hap!
