That would be IFF and i forget which of the 4 modes is for commecial aircraft
but it;s the same one world-wide.  Freq 246 comes to mind as well?  (IAD is
that I seem to remember, or really close to it).  These are world-wide and not
hidden at all.

Gather they were down on IAD and IFF at the same time which is bad.  Thats one
of the biggies that pre-flight checks ensure before you can take off.

You may be thinking more of the 'Bridge to Bridge' system with various channels
but that's surface craft and controlled by international maritime law.  Some
channels of it are used only by military but none are encrypted as far as i
know.  Approaching a vessel on a collision course 'This is ship 43, we track
you on relative heading 107 and request your intentions'.  You can hear a
sample in that old joke about the light house where the US Warship is asking
them to 'turn right 20 degrees' or something lke that.  Punchline is 'this is
a US Lighthouse, ball is in your court'.  It's a true hoot to read if you
havent seen that one.  I'd post it even if off topic but dont have it handy
here.

Meantime here, 1 batch of pancit done for Elise.  2 to go.  Next 2 are the type
that freeze fairly well.  You leave out all but a TB of the oil, then add that
back in at rewarm time and sorta 'pan fry' it.  Elise normally just uses bacon
grease then.  She makes bacon up, drops in some of the pancit in the hot oil,
frys for a bit, removes the pancit, adds more bacon, cooks an egg in the
bacon, then puts the egg over the pancit and crumbles bacon into it.  Call it
'German/Sasebo/Filipeno fusion'.  She saw me breaking an egg into pancit once
and came up with that idea.

These are big batches using my largest pan.  I'd say 10 cups total each.  The
next one is based on carrot, bok choy, red bell pepper, and baby squids (not
but 2 inches long and cut lenghtwise).  The 3rd one with be highly 'oriental'
for special use and be mostly nappa, bok choy, kangkoon, lotus root, daikon,
Octopus, shimenji, scallop, niboshi (tiny dried whole fish), dried shrimpets,
and whatevr else leaps into my pot.  The 3rd one starts with fried slivered
garlic in patis and will be highly spiced for use in smaller servings so be
frozen in 1 cup amounts.  The 2nd one isnt so high spiced and will be frozen
in 3 cup amounts.

Sorry, no MM but 'pancit' is kitchen sink cookery for me now.  Thats why Elise
cant replicate it though she makes a rather nice one we like well enough,
using jamacian curry of all things!

(Hi guys, Elise here.  Picking up big bowl!  You should smell this! My english
is good now but no time to type.  Just loving life.  I took a big roast from
Carol and will make Don and Charlotte a dinner of german potroast with rye
bread next week when she is gone.  Don will not starve!  Carol shows me a
picture of Neeka.  So like my little friend Charlotte in the boxing picture!
We laugh as my pancit likes curry and it is not really 'pancit' but base on the
same fat noodle.  Don he agrees to make us squid-stuffed-loaf.  Byebye!)

--- grin, she'll be in and out today.  Promised to leave a curry pancit recipe
one day for us all.  Dont expect traditional pancit, it's more like a
gravy-curry thing with carrots and pancit (cantonese) noodles and pork bits.

As you can see, no language gap now.  I helped a little with spelling (scarey
if you think on it) but she's quite able to handle this echo now and still
reads it at times from a qwk packet.
