Ärende: Hamburger Joint

  Gail and I tried out a new hamburger joint we had read about in the
  Washington Post a short while ago.   Name is Five Guys
  (www.fiveguys.com) and it is a family business that has grown to a
  number of places in the Virginia / Maryland area.

  Their primary product is hamburger.   They do have hot dogs on the
  menu, but we did not see anyone ordering them.  The hamburgers come
  plain, with cheese and/or with bacon.   You can get fries (Five Guys
  style or Cajun style) and soft drinks.   That is about it!

  We each had a cheese burger.   You can select the toppings from a
  large list of possibles (mayo, relish, onions, lettuce, pickles,
  tomatoes, fried onions, sauteeed mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, jalapeno
  peppers, green peppers, A-1 sauce, Bar-B-Q sauce, hot sauce).

  The burgers are cooked fresh on a large flat grill behind the counter.
  A sign says only 100% fresh, never frozen, beef. The method of cooking
  reminded me of the place that Burton took us to in NY.

  We were simple in our choices -- onions on both, mustard for
  Gail and ketchup for me.  Turns out the mustard and ketchup are on the
  side counter so we could have added our own, in the exact amounts we
  wanted.

  The regular burger is two patties, with cheese slices added on to make
  a cheeseburger at the last moment.  The amount of meat in the two
  patties was definitely more than 1/4 pound -- and perhaps as much as
  1/4 pound per pattie before cooking.  The bun is a moderately large
  bun that held together well.   As the sign said, all burgers are
  cooked well done -- They were juicy, but not the pink inside we have
  come to like.  Still, we both rated them as very good and better than
  McDonalds for only a little bit more ($4.49 each).  And also better
  than Fuddruckers which I think are more expensive.

  They also had "little" hamburgers starting at $2.69 for plain up to
  $3.69 for bacon cheeseburger.  For those who don't want hamburgers,
  there are kosher hotdogs, cheese or bacon dogs and grilled cheese.

  I liked the fries -- a copious amount for $2.09.  We shared one order
  and it was more than we really wanted.  I put malt vinegar on mine.
  They were neither McDonalds thin salty fries nor British chips, but in
  between in size.  Done nicely and quite tasty -- we did not try the
  cajun fries this time, but might do so next time.

  All told, pretty good lunch at a total of $15 for the two of us,
  including drinks.

  The one we went to was in Laurel, in between the north bound and south
  bound route 1 roads and just south of route 198.

  We had mentioned this place to Michael and Carol Saturday when we went
  to the place in downtown Columbia for Dim-Sum.   Michael volunteered
  that he had been to one of them someplace and warned that we would not
  get the juicy rare burger that we aim for at other places.   He was
  right in that, but nevertheless we did get a burger that we liked and
  we will go back again.
