I know well that the whisky won't age further after bottling;
that wasn't the point of wanting to drink it.  Rather, it would
be like sampling a snapshot of a bygone time.  A rare chance to
compare the taste of a Scotch distilled and casked in the '20s
with more modern Scotches.  And a chance to sample a blend
crafted at a distillery that exists only in history.

I've always liked Scotch - never understood the folks who say
it's an "acquired taste" cos if it truly is, I acquired it at
birth - and important milestones in my life have always been
toasted with Scotch.  So when I moved the debris from the shelves
of the basement and discovered the bottle, it was like the House
was welcoming me with a special gift.  The distillery went out of
business in 1937.  If the 12-year-old whisky in that bottle was
one of the last the distillery drew off, it would have been
casked in 1925 - the year the house was built.  If it were bottled
in '35, it was casked in 1923 - the year Maryanne's grandfather
bought the land.  Coincidences fall in strange ways, eh?  And
yet, those are some of the reasons why, if the bottle does not
sell despite the 100+ hits and numerous watchers, I will not be
so broken-hearted to sit around a table in my new house with my
old friends and that bottle of venerable Scotch.

And Scotch though it may be, I will still raise my glass in honor
of Maryanne's Polish grandfather and the house he built and toast
him with "Na zdrowie!"
