Yes, the initial fee is based on your initial bid price.

The listing fee for the bottle of Scotch was $19.15.  Of that, $15
was the reserve fee.  If it had sold, I would have been credited the
$15, but would of course had to pay a "final value fee" which would
have been much higher than that reserve fee.

As things stand, the bottle is selling in a handshake deal.  I'll have 
to pay a fee to PayPal, but not eBay this time.

Maryanne and I were clearing out the pantry of The House and
we came across a tray filled with shot glasses - at least a
dozen of them.  She said that when her grandparents were still
alive, they family would celebrate Easter there.  Gramps would
keep a bottle of whiskey and the tray of shot glasses by the
door and no adult would be allowed in without a Happy Easter
toast with Gramps.

I suggested reviving that custom, and got The Look.

Ha!  My mom buys J. Roget "Asti Spumante" and serves it
like soda pop when she hosts dinner.  I think she pays 
something like three bucks a bottle. [g]  I think "J. Roget"
appears in the dictionary definition of the word "plonk."
