============================
GJ> They may not be reasonable, as judged by our standards, but they can
GJ> be intelligent and highly creative, which fact the defenders of
GJ> motherhood, apple pie and Pavlovas would be wise to remember.

My point was actually that they would probably be reasonable
enough at this point to plot out attacks that would maximize
damage, though not substantially more reasonable than that.

ML> In case of explosion, what good is a parachute likely to be?

To expand, the probability of the parachute and the passenger
both persisting in a usable condition to, what is it, 10000 feet
would likely be smaller than the seatback cushion serving as an
effective "approved flotation device."

ML> That may change. Boston and New York are the first US cities to
ML> institute "random" luggage checks in the subways.
GJ> Have you been "randomly" targetted yet, or seen others done? If I was
GJ> a dedicated backpack bomber occasional random checks would not deter
 GJ> me.

Not yet. It's likely to happen pretty soon. Which makes one think
about the tradeoff between personal freedoms and asphyxiating in
in a cloud of Sarin gas or a tunnel collapse. Ugh ... and I have
to ride the subway both today and tomorrow.

GJ> Agreed, but my point was that it doesn't take much to bring down a
GJ> complex, delicate machine like an aeroplane. A wing hit on one side
GJ> damaging a flap would unbalance it to a disastrous degree.

But not so much that a pilot wouldn't be able to steer it off away
from skyscraping buildings and the like.

GJ> Are there airports in your country where planes take off over populous
GJ> areas? In any case, planes landing still carry enough reserve fuel to
GJ> make quite a mess if spread around and ignited.

Most takeoffs veer pretty immediately away from your populous
areas - this is a long-standing policy and derives, I believe,
as much from noise abatement procedures as security issues.

ML> Look at it this way
ML> SAM, 1000000 dinars, effectiveness maybe 10 percent
ML> RPG, 100 dinars, effectiveness vanishingly small.
 GJ> Or this way:
 GJ> 1 SAM, 1000000 dinars, 10 % chance of success
GJ> 10000 RPGs, same price, betcha a good chance of success. (Of course
GJ> this would require 10000 trigger pullers, which could be a problem.)

I've thought about the problem and have pretty much discounted
the possibility that a particular terrorist group could organize
what would amount to at least a squad (about 9) of dedicated
guys on the ground. And where would they practice?

Title: AIR OR MERINGUE COOKIES : GGPJ36A
 Categories: Cookies, Low-Fat
      Yield: 6 servings

      3 ea Egg whites
    1/4 ts Cream of tartar
    3/4 c Sugar
      3 tb Cocoa

  1. Beat egg whites with cream of tartar in large
mixing bowl until foamy. 2. Add sugar, 1 T. at a time.
Beat at hightest speed until stiff and glossy. Do NOT
underbeat. Remove 3/4 c. meringue to small mixing

sheets. Make small indentation in center of each with
top of teaspoon. 4. Spoon 1/2 teaspoon reserved plain
meringue into each indentation. Bake at 275 degrees

with door closed for 1 hour. Remove from oven. Cool
completely. Makes about 3 dozen cookies.
