======================
Hi Glen,

RH> next move, I'm going to hold out my little crock pot so I can use it in
 RH> the transition time.

GJ> A crock pot would be useful for transition cooking. I used to keep an
GJ> electric frypan for that, as it can be used for most kinds of meals.

Part of it too, stems from the fact we (unrealistically) expected this
to be like our move to HI; we moved into housing 2 weeks after arrival.
Didn't have the chance to get too bored with eating out, etc. For our
move prior to that (MA to AZ), we drove our van loaded with luggage and
a couple of boxes of household basics. We lived in a hotel for a couple
of weeks, then into temporary housing where we able to borrow a bit of
what we didn't have for kitchen use. We also were able to get my sewing
machine, Steve's computer and our microwae oven from our household goods
delivered.

GJ> of appetite, so I didn't join in the lunch of gulasch mit knödel at
GJ> the gasthaus further up the mountain.

RH> I couldn't have done the hike--and, like you, I'd probably be knodeled
RH> out at that point. The gulash would have been good tho.

GJ> Wherever I went in E Europe gulash was offered, in a variety of
GJ> spellings. Although tasty, it usually lacked the degree of paprika
GJ> flavour that I like. One interesting way it was served was at a

GJ> restaurant near St Vitus cathedral in the Prague Castle complex, where
GJ> the rich, dark stew was poured into a hollowed-out, hemispherical
GJ> half-loaf of bread, "Beef Gulash in a bread boat", and eaten with a

I've seen that done with beef stew as well. Less dishes for the kitchen

GJ> spoon and fork. My niece ate that, while I had, "Baked sliced
GJ> potatoes with smoked ham bits", a rather nice layered pie.

Sounds good to me. Sliced apples would have been good with it

RH> It's been 14 years since we came back from Germany and I've wanted to
RH> go back but not been able to. I think you're trying to make me more
 RH> homesick. (G)

GJ> Something you can think about doing after retirement...

Don't hold your breath waiting for us to visit. It would be nice but
funding would play pay a more major role in prioritising wants.
As of now, tentative plans are for Steve to got to seminary and then
pastor a small church; plans are subject to some revision of course.

GJ> stainless steel ring which supports the wok in a stable fashion just
GJ> above the element. The wok is a bit slower to heat, as the heat

RH> I'll have to give it a try & report my results here. I've been using
RH> the adapter on a regular electric stove; the heat conduction does lack
RH> there so I'm not sure how well it would work on a radiant heat one.

GJ> It should work, providing you allow the bottom of the wok to develop
GJ> a dark patina. A small gap shouldn't greatly affect the efficiency of
 GJ> radiant heat transfer.

Then it should work. I've a nice dark area built up on the bottom of
the wok from all the use its had. Probably got used more often in HI
than in AZ but will get a lot of use in GA once I get it out of storage.

GJ> Very exhausting, moving into a new place, but of course you have been
GJ> there, done that, a few times already. :) Good luck!

RH> Thanks; we've moved often enough that it's somewhat of a routine for
RH> us in how we set up. I concentrate on the kitchen first; Steve gets
RH> the computers out, up and running as his first priority. Then he'll
RH> set up the bedframe and help me decide on what goes where otherwise.

GJ> Yes, those would be my priorities - food, computer, bed. :)

Except 6 days after we moved into our last place, I shattered my elbow
and priorities got somewhat readjusted. We had the basics in place but
took longer to settle other areas.

Catch you later,
