Hurricanes, high winds, and just plain rain can do it too. The roots are
shallow, and if the dirt they're in gets too wet... plop. Oaks don't do
that, and maples do it less rarely.

I've already pulled my plants; they weren't in pots and I was expecting the
frost to nail them.  My coleus are still alive though.

Possibly, and school cafeterias can kill anything.

I've never eaten dust....  I did chow down on a red bean dessert pop this
evening though.  The texture was odd at first, it was made of red beans,
coconut milk, and tapioca, but eventually I started liking it.  I don't
think even a cafeteria can mess up frozen goodies that someone else made.

That's how it's done.  Cheap stew beef and bones, plus veggies.
