Just glancing at names I see Ian is back.... Goodo!

I haven't been reading much lately, but I'll try to catch up in a while, I
think.

Friday nite Butch and I went to a local Historical Mansion, Sonnenberg
Gardens in Canandaigua.  They did a great job of putting on one of those
interactive Murder Mysteries, right in the beautiful mansion.  The actors
were all amateurs but they did very well with the free form, ad-lib format.  
Each character had a snippet of the clues that they were supposed to
deliver to us detectives... if we dug deep enough with our questions.  They
did not just blurt them out.   You could often tell if the question was
unimportant, because you could feel that they were making up an answer to a
useless question.   The plot was an Engagement Party gone wrong when the
former Nanny  and Bridesmaid [and friend of the bride] died after eating
one of the four Bridal Party's Special initialed cupcakes.   As a red
herring the Bride "wasn't hungry" and gave her cupcake to the victim.

We ticket buyers became detectives and in small groups interviewed all the
characters to gather clues.   Our friends the Bouwens had to back out at
the last minute and we bought their tickets and took my golfing buddy Dale
Groover and his wife Kay.  We weren't quite sure if they would like it or
not.  In the beginning during the preliminary mingling with the characters,
they sat and had a plate of refreshments, and I thought "Oh, oh!  They are
not gonna take part and will be bored to tears."  But suddenly they were in
the middle of it in our group and asking all kinds of questions!  They had
a ball!   

One interesting note:  The banker did it.   After the show was over, we
were talking to one of the suspects and she said she only had one line for
us to dig out, but some of the others had a whole page of lines they had to
deliver if properly asked.  We asked her if she had known the murderer and
she said no one knew but the director, and the murderer.   Then she said
the lines of everyone were the same for Saturday night.  But they would
change the Murderer!!  Clever that.

There is nothing to report about the refreshments.  Just standard veggy
dips, cheese, cookies, etc.   And all the NY State wine you wanted, in a
small two ounce plastic shot glass, that they filled more fully as the
night went on.   Oddly we saw no one who seemed to drink very much
wine..... even me.  [g]

A real nice evening.

I would suggest using the red type fish in this recipe.

      Title: Heringsalat (Herring Salad)
 Categories: German, Salads, Vegetable, Fish
      Yield: 4 Servings
 
      8 oz Pickled Herring; Drained
    1/2 ea Green Pepper; Seed And Dice
      1 ea Apple; Tart, Core And Dice
      1 ea Orange; Sectioned And Diced
      2 ts Onion; Grated
      2 tb Vegetable Oil
      1 tb Vinegar
      4 ea Lettuce Leaves; Cupped
 
  Combine ingredients and marinate in refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  Serve on inner tightly cupped lettuce leaves.
