My understanding of Mach 1.0 and booms is much vaguer than I realized ...

Newton.  I didn't think that was "near" Hanscom (and I was thinking there might
be some base around Boston proper), but perhaps as planes go, it is.

Ewwww.  Sounds like mild food poisoning.  Perhaps.  Effects of food poisoning
can persist for quite a while.  I became aware of a stiffening of the muscles
across my midriff, once, with a tiredness at the back of my waist and an
unsettled sensation which alarmed me.  I had yogurt on hand, so I sipped some
of the whey off the top of it, and after about 15 minutes, the stiffness was
gone.  I ate the yogurt cautiously, and by bedtime, I felt great.  It didn't
require me to stay home or eat a liquid or other type of diet, or anything, but
nevertheless, in some way I can't remember, I didn't feel completely well for a
month.  I attributed that to toxins from whatever it was that the yogurt put to
rout.

This reminds me:  In general, what substances will make ginger turn pink?  And
do you know the mechanism by which it turns pink?  If I'm not mistaken, I read
some time back that something colorless will make it turn pink.
