======================
Hi Ruth,

-> RH> Any of them polite?

-> Knowing him, probably the majority are useable in a family echo.

 RH> I wasn't sure.  A friend who's been a church pastor for 30+ years was
 RH> raised on a dairy farm. He may not use the colorful language taught
 RH> to him by helpful farmhands, but he does know the vocabulary.

So how do you know that he knows it?

-> Interesting sounding. My tastes run to gold since it goes best with my
-> coloring. I have a few silver pieces tho.

 RH> My taste runs to antique or vintage - mid-60s or earlier. Materials
 RH> irrelevant. I love 50s copper stuff, 60s sterling, art deco pot metal
 RH> anything, reverse carved lucite.....:-)

I've got to see the piece to know if I like it or not. Some stuff can
be pure ugly but have a great write up & vice versa.

-> That's the risk you take having your niece so close by. (G) Just make
-> sure you and she both get the shot ASAP.

 RH> Working on it. I'll call tomorrow and see when to show up and read a
 RH> book.(G)

And???????????????

 RH> dead.

-> I used 3 today; one each at the commissary, Lowes and Home Depot. The
-> commissary one was the best running; it could turn on a nickel and had a
-> huge basket. The others were kludgy but the one at Lowes had a horn and
-> back up beeper.

 RH> I need a backing beeper!

I'm not that bad. (G)

One thing we got at the commissary when we were still in guest housing
was a pack of microwave in the bag broccoli (3 smaller bags inside a
larger one) and "California blend" veggies (baby carrots, broccoli &
cauliflower. The cooking inside a bag feature was convenient in a place
with limited cooking ability but the results were less than stellar.
For one, the bag has to be emptied into a bowl for serving. OK, that n
itself sounds do-able but there's no notch to start ripping the bag
open. You have to find scissors and cut a steaming hot bag, being
careful not to get burned by the steam. Also, the broccoli was quite
tough--small pieces of mostly stem and very few florets--hard to pierce
with a fork. The carrots and cauliflower weren't much better. As for
serving size, they said that the bag of California blend was supposed to
serve 4. It gave 2 nice adult sized servings, maybe 3 child size. The
little bags of broccoli were supposed to serve 3 but barely gave 2
adults a serving each. All in all, a good idea in theory but the
execution thereof is considerably lacking.

-> One of my sisters had Ann, the other had Andy but I didn't have either.
-> My younger brother also appropriated my Smokey Bear at an early age &
-> wore him out.

 RH> I had a sock monkey and, I think, a store-bought Raggedy Ann.  They've
 RH> been gone so long I'd forgotten about them.

These were all store bought. Years ago, I did a sock monkey for the
girls but they gave it away years later. For Christmas several years
ago, I did 2 monkeys each, dressing 2 in boys outfits & 2 in girls for
Rachel and Deborah. These are more cherished but Rachel's cat ate the
straw hat on the girl monkey (out of jealousy?).

-> RH> They used to teach basic sewing to recruits. I guess they don't do
->  RH> that any more?
 RH> ->
-> Not that I know of; neither Steve (who had basic in 83) nor Deborah
-> (basic in 02) mentioned it.

 RH> Hmph - one more way our military is failing its recruits. Of course,
 RH> when they taught sewing they were still getting draftees who hadn't
 RH> learned to read....

Same situation now with some of the volunteers since the public schools
seem to be lacking in teaching some of the basic skills. But too, the
military has a larger percentage of its forces with post secondary
degrees than the general public.

-> And it was pre aged for you--nice; you could sew it up sooner. (G)

 RH> Or at least pre-cut! The pieces were almost square when I cut them
 RH> out of the book.

Well, if you wanted it a bit more fitted, then you wouldn't have needed
to even square some of them up-make it taper a bit to the waist.

Catch you later,
