Ärende: Fast Food Tastes

Over the past week, we havent had enough of an organized kitchen to do 
much cooking. So it's been dining out a lot lately; I often grab a 
fast food breakfast which carries me though all day to a light supper.
Reviews and comparisons:

McDonald's Deluxe Breakfast - Cheap and filling, and mostly not bad
though huge on the carbs.  [Real] scrambled eggs, cooked hard but not
browned, and when I mean hard, it's like eating a mass of Silly Putty.
A lot of people like their eggs that way, though, and of course they
have to worry about the Undercooking Nazis.  Biscuit, flaky and quite
good. Hotcakes, tender and tasty, also quite good.  Real butter, 
strawberry jam, nasty "Table Syrup" which probably is made from Table
Sap - nope, I just checked the label and it's artificially flavored
high fructose corn syrup, surprise surprise.  And sausage!  McDonald's
excellent sausage.  Oh, yeah, and a "hash brown," which is sort of a
huge, deep-fried shredded potato patty, also quite good when very hot
but just a greasy mass of fried starch when cold (and it films the 
roof of your mouth - huzzah for coconut oil.)  Overall grade B+

Burger King Croissanwich - Long ago, McDonald's climbed the
Breakfast Peak and stuck a flag in an English Muffin, so His
Majesty the Burger King needed a different type of Non-White-Bread
upon which to build a breakfast sandwich.  He chose the croissant.
The Croissanwich is the BK answer to the Sausage McMuffin With Egg:
croissant, cheese, egg, sausage.  The croissant is not flaky and
puff-pastry-like, it is soggy (for some reason, the American public
has been trained to believe that soggy = fresh.)  The egg is a 
square patty of scrambled egg with pinched edges, as though it was
injection-molded (and since I'm pretty sure these are shipped
pre-cooked, perhaps it is.)  The sausage is okay, though not as
spicy as McDonald's and also it is spongy in texture (which usually
indicates a TVP content.)  A Croissanwich is barely-edible Cram.
Overall grade D-.

Burger King "hash browns" are small shredded potato disks which
are bite-sized, deep fried in ancient oil, and served hot.  They
must be eaten immediately upon receipt even if that means while
driving, because they are somewhat tasty when piping hot from the
fryer but greasy and nasty when cold.  They get cold a lot faster
than McDonalds Big Patty version, probably because of all the
extra surface area. Grade: C.

McDonald's Coffee: When they first introduced the change to 
Newman's Own/Green Mountain coffee from the excremental battery
acid they used to serve in the morning, the coffee was pretty
good.  However, they have gone back to taking perfectly good
coffee and boiling the piss out of it and then back into it
again, and now their coffee is just as bad if not worse than
before, except it carries a third-party brand on the cups.
